I have a 2013 Fabia estate TSI. The heater fan has worked fine since I bought the car in October 2016 with i but it suddenly stopped working today   and now   actual none of the speeds one to three now work. There was no drama, it just went off. I have had a word with my usual independent garage and  they think it could be a rheostat but could that apply to three of the four speeds but not the fastest?  It could be the  fan switch of course but then wouldnt position four be inoperative too? I havent had a heater fan problem for many years now with any of my cars  so this has been a real surprise. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think you have had the old "Common" Fault that can plague these fans. They have a speed selector "resistor" That have a habit of going breasts-aloft! Usually you loose speed one and two, then three thus left with only four. The cure is usually a resistor pack, which from a dealer will cost around £50 but can be found for around a tenner! If it IS this, (And I think it sound like it) You will need to partially remove the air bag on the passenger side. You do this by opening the glovebox and unscrewing it, unclip the airbag from inside there. This is not too complicated and you will most likely find a suitable thread explaining this in full. The resistor will be accessible from the airbag hole, after shoving a little soundproofing insulation to one side. It is then a clip to remove the old resistor, unplug and install the new. Give it a test and if all is well, fit back together again. I have skimped a little here, but it is a fairly simple task for a competent DIY-er but do take care not to fire off the airbag! This is a guide but I know for certain, you will find fuller details here if you scour but your garage were on the right tracks. The link below will show you the kind of part. (Might even be the correct one).

Just seen them on eBay for as little as £3.20 but the'll come from Hong Kong. May be cheaper but wait will be longer and the one I mentioned has 5 year warranty!
