Turbo issues

Featured Replies

Hello every peeps. I'm about to buy either a Skoda Rapid, either Spaceback or hatch or a Fabia 1.2 TSi from year 2015 in SE spec.

I am nervous of the turbo being completely unreliable (harks back to when friends had diesel turbo problems and even on the old Saab 99 turbo)

Can I buy one without having a shed load of trouble and are there any problems associated with either car

Thanks

Tom

Welcome.

Saab 99 Turbo has not much in common with a 1.2 TSI Euro 5 or 6 petrol engine,

more in common with VW TDI issues....

There are issue with Turbo's / Actuators on 1.2 TSI's before 2015.  That should be resolved in a 2015 engine so not a worry.

But you need to think, if issues from vehicle in 2012 are showing in 2015,16,17,18,

then 2015 vehicles are not 3 years old til 2018..

Check the Rapid and Mk3 Fabia sections to see what issues some have.

Any engine / components can have issues & if only 5% do then 95% will not have.

The only worry is how the VW Group deny any faults until they get forced to, then they still say  overblown on the internet / forums.

Thanks feller.

Had the turbo replaced on 1.2 TSI on my Yeti over Christmas. Less than 5 years old 34k on the clock. £1263 for the parts alone! Glad I had an aftermarket warranty. Cost me the £100 excess though.
