2010 scout tdi pd high idle

Featured Replies

Hi, my 2010 scout Tdi pd seems to have a higher idle than other Octavias I work on and with. Tick over is around 830rpm and shows on dash as one segment under 1000 rpm line where as others have a tick over at 750rpm (2nd segment under the 1000rpm mark)

I have replaced engine battery for a good top quality excide batt also scanned for fault codes using Snap on solus Pro but can’t see anything wrong. Maybe I’ve beeen over looking something like faulty eng temp sensor causing higher idle so any pointers would be greatly accepted.

I understand normally that when the vehicle is using a lot of battery power the engine RRVs rise to compensate etc and in cold weather it also revs higher until warm due to the “cold start function” but mines never been any higher or lower no matter what I do or how much power I’m using.

I will upload a photo shortly.

 Many thanks in advance...

P.S she’s covered 178 thousand miles but has been serviced every 6 weeks since new (direct ex responce car) still drives like new and sounds as tight as the day she was made.

Is it manual or DSG?

Here’s a photo of the idle on one of the 62 plate Octavia paramedic cars, I no the engines are slightly different but surely the idle is same on all engines?? My engine code is BMM if that helps, on my solus pro it does say that the idle target is 750 rpmbut actual reading on solid is 830rpm

Is your vehicle always showing just under 1000 revs at idle?

That is what I see when the Scout is performing a regen. I also get a smell coming from underneath the rear of the vehicle (more so on passenger side) whilst the revs are that high indicatating a regen is taking place.

At 178k miles it could be related to a failing dpf giving a constant Regen scenario. Should be able to check for that with VCDS

Checked dpf status and all seems ok, last regen was 340 miles ago, even done a forced regen via diagnostics... I do no that the air con system needs gassing as it’s comjng up with air on related faults but I’d of thought that it wouldn’t alter the rpm as I’ve got air con turned off, it is high mileage but serviced every 6 weeks or at the very latest every 8 weeks regardless.

Would a boost leak cause slightly high idle? Found a small 3mm split in the plastic boost pipe that connects to the inter cooler and the rubber hose just before the turbo, (going over gearbox/under air filter box).  I could here the turbo whistle and also what I though was leaking air since I got the car and today I finally found it. Will replace pipe ASAP and hopefully this cures it.
