Boot size

Featured Replies

Previously i have owned a fabia estate where the boot was a suitable size is there anyone with a roomster that transports a wheelchair around with them if so is there any space left in the boot? Roomster may be a bit more convenient for us due to its higher driving position

Thanks

Hi Greenineboss,

Haven't compared my Roomster's boot with that of a Fabia estate; if you need to transport a wheelchair regularly, can you take said wheelchair to a Skoda dealers and ask to have a look around a used Roomster, inc trialling the wheelchair in boot/rear footwell/fold/remove one of the three rear seats, try stand wheelchair upright where the seat was (would probably have to fold the w/chair handles backward & down, might well be able to secure it via that side seatbelt buckled into the mid-seat socket.  Would prevent legal use of that middle rear seat. Mid seat has clever 3-point belt that pulls down from above, has two buckles, ask them to demo it.

Have been carrying assorted folding zimmers and stroller/walker/rollator in the back footwells of late, big wide opening, deep rear doors make easy work of swallowing them! Folded flat zimmer also easily laid sideways flat in the boot, with space above to spare.

Be aware that back-end of Roomster sits on an earlier Octavia rear axle, giving a slightly wider rear track than is the case with the Roomster front end and the Fabias.  Roomster was engineered to also be a van, Google "Skoda Praktik", pix online from Europe, but never sold here, I've never seen one here in UK (or in Portugal this time last year for a week).

The Roomster front end is essentially standard Mk2 Fabia, so don't think driver and front passenger seats will feel any higher.   Mine has height adjust levers on both front seats. Rear seat row IS elevated, such that a tall rear passenger struggles to get much forward view, best let tall passenger sit in front, to avoid travel sickness!

Gather from fellow owners on here that their grandchildren love the elevated rear seating, also the airy feel provided by the panoramic roof.  Mine doesn't have that, as I wanted one with the roof-rails, so could fit roof-bars and carry stuff.   The very versatile rear seating, plus tilt-backrest flat of front passenger seat, allow carriage of long stepladders/timbers etc, right down into front passenger footwell, and still get hatch closed.  Haven't actually used the roof rails, the car came second-hand with a pair of roofbars and towing gear.

HTH.

Richard.

I regularly travel with a folding wheelchair in the boot. I remove the boot cover and store it up against the back of the rear seats, then load the wheelchair in the standing position. There is plenty of "headroom"  for the wheelchair and it is relatively easy to lift the chair into the boot. I use a bungee cord around the chair attached to the headrests to stabilise the chair.

Doing it like this there is plenty of room in the boot for shopping, luggage etc. You could of course also flatten or remove the middle rear seat to provide even more space for luggage assuming only two rear seat passengers are being carried. Don't even need to push the rear seats forward.

On occasions I have travelled with the folding wheelchair and a folding 4-wheeled walker in the boot and with 3 passengers. Bit of a tight squeeze, but there's still also room for small items, e.g. shopping bags in the boot.

The Roomster has a very upright back profile which allows tall items to be loaded in the boot "standing up", not like the shallow boots you get in hatchbacks. The hatch opening is very tall.

The varioflex seating is also a boon, and should be available in many more cars as it gives so much flexibility.

I never travel in the back, but some passengers have commented on the good view from the elevated seating position and the large rear windows. That plus the panoramic roof gives it a very light and airy feel, not claustrophobic like many modern trendy looking cars.

I'll send you a picture showing how I load up if you want?

I will get you some pictures, but won't be until Saturday night after I visit the wheelchair user.

Here are a couple of pictures showing the folded wheelchair stowed in the boot. Back seats are fully "back".

Plenty of space for luggage shopping etc.

Hope this helps.

We have got both a roomster and a Yeti, and boot is much bigger in roomster.  It is taller and seems wider (smaller wheel arches), depth is similar.

It can be made even bigger as the rear seats slide forward (it has varioflex so can tilt seats or even remove them altogether.  With a roomster the middle seat is small (but if you never carry 5, can take it out and move the outer seats inwards).  Can have one rear seat as normal,  the other as boot space if required.

We had 2 dogs and they liked looking out of windows so we ordered the variable floor for the roomster (but even with this it is still bigger than the Yeti as the cill is much lower, but roof is similar height).   The variable floors were a Skoda accessory (none in UK were sold with them as standard) but does mean can easily slide things in.

You need to lift things lot higher from ground to get to Yeti boot.  We now only have one dog, but Yeti is too high for her to jump into easily, but jumps in roomster easily.

Thanks for the photos and advice after 2 cups of tea and 2 hours at the dealership today my grandparents have decided to look at some roomster motability deals. I must say that it really is spacious inside and they found it easy to get in and out of
