Government report.

So much for VW’s claims  -

If anyone thought that crude piece of mesh place before the Air-Mass flow meter, to supposedly to create better laminar flow and more accurately measure Air mass flow was being fooled.

The significant fuel injection remap to prevent spikes in the conditions which create NOX was always going to be the main adjustment to reduce NOX but even then it was just a nudge as clearly the only proper fix was to fit aftermarket substantial sub systems Lean NOX, SCR etc to make these cars compliant.  The Mesh and remap on these "built cheap and dirty" diesels was only ever going to tweak it a few percent in the right direction rather than make a quantum shift in to the compliant zone of NOX emission.  Need either complete re-engineering or restricting them from Urban areas at high pollution times.

The rider is that this is now the era of RWE (real world emissions) as opposed to the previous reality of ~ 5-8 times NOx ; so 4. - is a reasonable improvement.

I’m more interested in the consumption outcome; particularly the 14% highway increase which VW specifically stated wouldn’t be the case.

In Euope also, not just the NOX, but the fuel consumption ie CO2 is 10 to 15 % higher than self tested and therefore cars have had to move up several tax categories though in the UK we have adopted a flat rate for road tax for most cars no mater what the CO2 is and just a bit of a whack on the initial buying tax, which one can get massively more than that off discount at the moment ie quarter off as car sales have stalled so badly.

Will government recoup underpaid road tax on those cars that should have been up to 129 g/km of CO2 but were declared as less than 120 gm/km and benefited from £100 a year less road tax?

And VW are talking up a diesel renaissance.

Their credibility goes against much of the rest of the car industry and I suspect is more to do with fooling buyers to buy their massive stock of unsold diesel cars.

With many of their own German cities, a dozen UK cities and many dozens of the mid sized cities being compelled to restricted/fine any but the latest diesels from city streets it sounds more like a plea/hope that potential buyers will soak up the remains of their non-compliant to RDE NOX standards wiesels.

It must be around a decade since Mercedes introduced SCR to their range out here.

Id like to think that VW wish they had their time over again.

By scrimping a billion dollars by fitting decent NOX emission system it has cost them 20 billion dollars and their name in major markets!

Can you guide us to a link for the "government report" that article is referring to, please?

Would be interesting to see the before/after NOx figures, not just the summary "still 4x over".

Sorry it was a co study by the industry associations (confused with ACCC, consumer affairs).

I suspect there is an element of proprietary information involved........lawyers will be on to that quick smart.

I read something the other day (Financial Times I believe) that essentially said that without the emissions scandal, VW were on a one way train to ruin.  There was an old guard at the top without a good idea between them who were running it into the ground.  The scandal forced the board to enforce change.

As a result they are more profitable than ever today.  If you had bought shares in VW, BMW and Daimler, the day before the scandal was exposed, the VW shares would have made you the most money by today (10%).

SUZUKI bought back the last of their shares from the VW Group the night before the VW Emissions Scandal broke on VW Group the no1 Biggest Car Manufacturer just that last 6 months.

Suzuki Shares went high as VW's crashed.

I just wondered if Toyota lent Suzuki the Billions needed to buy those shares back after the markets closed.

........and give it to the TUV for proof of claims perhaps.

But.... read the thread here. Its clearly proven by user data as viable tech.

Who needs evidence or the TUV to show it too?

Gonna stop now before this thread starts getting astro-turfed too!

Not sure that is right as Ordinary Shares were around 180 in 2014 and now are only 160 Euros.  They did hit 185 in the January 18 peak but like most other shares are down about 10% from then so if one held on the VW shares one wold have lost money especially in relation to  inflation and most other shares since then.

By comparison Renault shares have risen a third since 2014, so much so Renault may buy the French government out and therefore the completion of the merger of Nissan and Renault could occur.

I read someplace on the Civil Case in the Republic of Ireland where VW Failed to put up an Expert Witness.

Maybe someone knows if an internet myth or a factoid.

VW Group employees can go to jail for perjury / fraud / false evidence. As seen in the USA.

It must just be whistle blowers that sleep easy these days, i wonder how many VW Group Board Members or Senior or Ex Senior Managers no

longer travel around the World anymore for fear of being detained, especially in the USA.
