Reluctor Ring

Featured Replies

Hi All

First post, been reading posts in this forum for quite some time now.

A quick question, has anyone tried the reluctor rings from UKpartsdirect. I have an abs fault and from what I can gather it's usually the ring that's at fault, (2012 Octavia Scout 2.0cr). Usually the fix appears to be the whole hub but I have come across these rings, just wondering if they're worth a punt.? I was a time served mechanic for 18 years up until 1998, so I'm up to the task.

I'm also in the market for some diagnostic kit, ideally only up to £100, any recommendations on this as well would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Drew

I have no experience of replacing the ring but i have replaced several hubs due to the rings being broken, i have always been surprised how rough the bearings are by the time the ring has rotted, you may well find the corrosion on the back of the hub means the new rings comes unstuck prematurely,

Best diag kit would be VCDS but that's more than your budget unless you can buy second hand.

Thanks Cryonut.

VCDS is very expensive for something I might only ever use a couple of times. Just wanted something to point to where the fault is and something to erase the fault code after. My wife has a 65 plate Fabia that she will probably keep for a while, so may get a bit of use.

I use a cheap wifi obd2 dongle with torque app for what you are suggesting.

It's pretty good, better than nothing. Doesn't do all the subsidiary systems but core engine and transmission covered. No customisations for car features can be programmed. Cost was about £5 for app and obd2 dongle maybe £15.... certainly worth having but not an equivalent to vcds. What i can afford though.
