going from a mk-3 Superb to a Kodiaq

those of you who've gone from a Superb 3 to a Kodiaq :

1) what do you miss about the Superb ?

2) what does the Kodiaq have/do better than the Superb ?

Works better as a mini-bus, as long as you don't get the pointless 5-seat version :tongueout:

The obvious differences.

 

Superb has more square feet (or square metres) of internal space.

 

Kodiaq sits higher. Can have 7 seats. Has 2017 technology added.

I'm interested in the Kodiaq too - the 7 seater option.

 

Does it drive as well/pull as well? Has anyone gone for the 190PS version (I'm wary of getting one that's underpowered and am used to my Superb 170)?

 

Haven't had a test drive yet so your insights would be muchly appreciated.

I've moved from a diesel Octavia vRS (180bhp) to a petrol Kodiaq (150bhp). Haven't missed the 30bhp yet, or the extra torque in the diesel. And I definitely don't miss the DPF regens!

 

For towing, maybe a diesel might still be a better idea - but how often do you actually use all the bhp in your Superb? Using the rather nifty 'OneApp' thing, it would appear I'm using <50bhp in the Kodiaq for 99% of the time.

Naturally I don't use all the bhp all the time. It's when I want it and it's not there that I would miss it, e.g. overtaking, driving with 5 adults on board (becoming more frequent now parents are getting on a bit and more reluctant to drive). I drive hire cars a lot in work and really notice the lack of power - admittedly these are usually very small-engined models.

 

Before the Superb we had an A4 2.7 TDI and that was great for oomph when you needed it. We test drove Vauxhall Carlton (I think), Toyota Avensis and Octavia before going for the A4 and overall found that anything less than 170/180 was sluggish. Which is why I didn't go for a lower-powered Superb when the time came.

 

It's something to check on a test drive of course but I am thinking about petrol rather than diesel this time, so thanks for the info.

 

 

Whilst not a MkIII my daily car is a MKII Superb, a CR140 diesel. The weekend family car is a CR150 diesel Octavia Scout estate.

 

I was fully expecting to have to go for the 2.0 TSI Kodiaq for comparable performance, but after test driving the 150PS 1.4 TSI it is easily comparable to both our other cars in terms of grunt.

 

Sure, the torque and peak performance comes and goes at different points but for me this was more than made up for with the near silent engine and huge leaps forward in refinement and smoothness.

 

I'd forgotten how good petrol engines are. As a result I've ordered the 1.4 TSI and saved a couple of grand to boot.

 

The Kodiaq is to replace the Octavia, and at 8,000 miles a year makes sense, but given how impressed I was with it then I may even consider petrol to replace the 30,000 mile/year Superb!

Are you sure about that? Kodiaq has bigger loading capacity, but about passanger saloon - Superb is bit longer, but Kodiaq is bit wider.

The Kodiaq may have more volume - tested with ping-pong balls in a 5 seater without spare wheel of course - but my memory says the Superb estate had more rear leg room and maybe more square footage in the boot.

 

I’ve utilised total volume in both to good effect for “flitting” and “holidays”. Not with 7 passengers at the same time of course :-)

 

And - I’ve never heard anyone complain about having too much power.

 

From one who doesn’t fret about wringing the last MPG out of his vehicles and enjoyed outpacing an old XK Jag coupe today. Yes, I was still running KPH :-)

The Superb does have "more" legroom, if you simply look at the distance between front and rear seats.

 

But the seats in the Kodiaq are higher from the floor, so your calves slope down more steeply, reaching the floor closer to the rear seat.  That, and the room for feet left under the front seats, mean that I reckon the two are equally spacious for long-legged rear passengers.

Totally  with you on the regens!

 

As for the power, couldn't disagree more. My kodiaq 150 is like a lethargic barge compared to my vrs. I used to take the octavia on track days and overtake mx5s etc. Now I can barely overtake fiestas.  I miss my vrs :(

That's because it weighs twice as much.

 

Yes, it's nowhere near as quick. But it still has enough power to do the job it has been built for. It is not meant to be a sporty car.

I would expect mpg to suffer a bit more, especially at higher speeds given the size and shape of the Kodiak vs a Superb
