Finding a spare (switched) fuse?

Featured Replies

Dashcam install.

  1.5 2017 Octavia.

All the 'mini' fuses I tried are powered with ignition off (relative to chassis earth).

Anyone know a fuse which is / should be / switched please?
Currently using  mini fuse 15, should be 'Electric steering lock' - no fuse fitted.

Annoyance (risk) of battery drain.

I piggy backed my dash cam into the fuse for the rear wiper as that is switched plus its a standard size fuse

The dash cam I have has a small bullet connector, the 'standard sized' fuse piggy back a larger bullet?
Also I found I could not physically insert the old fuse into the piggy back unit - seemed just too tight.
hence I wanted to use a 'spare' socket.

I've now bought a 'standard' sized piggy back piece.

Again the fuses are extremely tight! I know it may vibrate out... but this is ridiculous!
I'll have to cut off the two bullet pieces and use an insulated spade connector.

Rear wiper (fuse 47? Bottom row) - Thanks, I'll try that one.

Rear wiper fuse but cannot remember the number. (48 or 47 ?)

47 in my book (shame the owners manual image is too small to read).

I do wish their manuals were better. 101 options / variations / models all in one book.

Very confusing.

Check out This thread here which should help identify switched versus permanent-power fuses available for dashcam installs.

Depends entirely on the various equipment packs you have installed in your car - you may have some extra fuse-positions available, or some filled, versus the ones on my car, which ^^^ thread is about.

Just ENSURE you put the input & output of the piggyback fuse-tap in the correct way around... it DOES make a difference to the way it works.

Yes, 'right way round' makes sense, once you understand it!
A dmm found live ones, I was puzzled that *all* mini's were not switched!
As per that article, I sought  an 'unused' fuse (no output side wired).
I disagree about 'top' being 12V feed, I found the unused mini's to be on the lower side.

All in for now, though I have to switch off the dashcam.

I agree with the post, fuse access needed gymnastics to get the 'damper' off is simple bad design by Skoda.
Ditto v.poor fuse access / diagramming?

I may re-run the cable to avoid the airbags, good info there spinifex - thank you.

MAY re-run the cables? No MAY about it, priority I’d have thought!

You must not have cable over airbag.
