MOT Question

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My drivers sided electric window has decided to pack up, it makes a whirring sound but will not go up or down.

Whilst this is a minor annoyance, the MOT is due shortly on the car.

Can anyone answer if this is any MOT failure as online there seems to be contradictory advise, I'm not sure if as it is the drivers side it is a failutre but the passenger side would not be?

Any advise greatly appreciated.

I had a quick glance at lunchtime, and couldn't see anything related to working windows, but I didn't have long.  Have a browse here: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/611019/mot-inspection-manual-classes-3-4-5-and-7.pdf

Valid 'til 19th May.

There's at least one tester on the forum, think his username has Julian and some numbers but I can't remember the exact combo.

Thanks Wino,

Appreciate you taking time to look.

I couldnt see nathing in there but would be good if Julian could be kind enough to advise.

Thanks Again

Hi, I've just checked what's covered by an mot check on the www.gov.uk interweb thingy and it doesn't have any reference to side windows other than fronts mustn't be tinted ..............

I'd thought a call to your mot test centre would give absolute clarity though

I don’t think windows are testable. The doors need to be able to open

I usually drive the car to the MOT bay and leave the driver's window down for ease of access.

I've never seen the tester try to check it will wind up.

What about convertibles or those Lotus Sevens and skeleton-type cars?

Windows are not a testable item

When preparing the car and doing servicing and maintenance pre MOT could you not get the window fixed,

or is that a job for the future, sometime maybe?

Thanks all, yes I will get it fixed, but I would rather do it at a later date when I get some other work done.
