Attempted to reset gear linkage following the how to on here.. I messed something up as now I have no gears can’t get it back to normal some one please help!!! 

 

 

Watch this - especially near the end where it shows were the locking pin is for a six speed box if yours is one.

Right well after much faffing... I have all 6 gears back  

 

lesson learnt dont don’t mess with a car that currently works better is the enemy of good!! 

 

My issue was not realising the cable has fully extended upon retracting the clips. 

 

So was this successful in a word NO

 

heres what I did (and not what to do)

 

1- removed intake pipe for more room

 

2- released the two linkage clips and locked them open

 

3- looked in vain for something that locks the selector on the gearbox (naff all anywhere what so ever I felt I looked I felt and looked again nothing there that other people have described) 

 

4- place 5mm pin in gear stick to lock it at home (which made the stick way over to passenger side so don’t get how that’s it’s factory home position)

 

-5 went back to the engine bay pushed the selector down manually and held it there while I let off both clips 

 

6- got in car realised all the gears where messed up... swore

 

7- put everything back to how I found it 

 

8-give up

 

ill just change gearbox oil and hope that helps  

 

feel free to to give me pointers on what I did wrong or what I should of done

Also in the rain... I got an idea acted on it wish I didn’t haha.

Well you're not alone - I tried to solder different colour LEDs into my instrument cluster to change the backlighting colour and I totally cocked it up. Managed to salvage the situaiton in the end but wished I'd never touched it in the first place. Haha

I don’t know why it turned out like it did... everyone else just lifts the bonnet does the deed and post that it worked a treat for them I do it and it turns into a cluster ****..  

as for LEDs I had many a run in with that stuff in my youth ended up have to buy some halford 12v led thing and point them at the speedo I messed it up that much

I’m tellin ya!! Anybody else’s car I can fettle things comes to mine the fear of breaking it makes me break it haha.. my 106 GTI is simple in comparison to the vrs that’s my excuse

Haha I know.. it’s got 48k on the clock I’m waiting till I can get 10k for it 

You won't get 10k for it, but your kids will, you'll have to vacuum pack it in a desert warehouse to stop the tinworm from eating it. Sell it before it turns into a pile of brown crystals.

thats happened to my punto GT litterally and I didn’t even notice it happening till one MOT the guy said scrap it out the blue

Once the tinworm gets hold it's all over inside a year, sell this Easter.
