Pardon for asking, but I don't see if it was mentioned, how many miles have you covered with the tyres (since they're worn so much)?

Its difficult to tell, especially when they aren't on the car all year round.

 

I cover 25,000 miles a year and the winters are usually on from November to March, so 5 months = 2,083 miles x 5 months = 10,416 x 2 seasons = 20,832 miles covered.

Wow, they look almost new, mightily impressive for 7 years old and does at least put the issue I have into perspective!

All this is supposing your steering geometry is correct, along with tyre inflation, etc. If the tracking is out, it will kill tyres-can be slow, can be quick. They will possibly be fighting each other to pull left or right and/or inward/outward. I would recon even with the defect, with so much tread gone from the fronts, they MAY offer a discount on new tyres but you had most of the tyres life. The rears, again, if steering setup is ok, should be compensated for so the MIGHT just allow extra for the fronts as the rears are cracking too. That said, they could say the rears were on the front to start with, then the rear so the front alignment damaged the tyres. Shame but it could just be down to your car. Hope they do something for you though!

Poor tracking won't cause that cracking and block shedding

...You pulled up an old thread there. Add to the, the OP stated they had clear issues of rear alignment. This is what most people would consider to be tracking. It can and will shred tyres.

The reason I'm aware of alignment issues on the rears is that when the original factory fitted Pirelli tyres got close to the end of their life, the well documented saw-toothing that affects very many MkII Superb's reared its ugly head.

 

After those tyres were replaced I wore through a good couple of further sets of rear tyres without issue i.e. no obvious premature wear on the inner edges, or droning.
