24" BMX

Recommended Posts

Might not be the regular subject in this section and might be another one of my less sensible ideas but I've got the idea in my head that a BMX would be a laugh. Partly to play about with and partly because I could use it to cycle the last part of my trip to work. I'm tall and fat (at the moment, see the weight loss thread for more info! :D) so I figure a normal 20" BMX would be a bit small for me, then I stumbled on 24" BMXs. They seem to keep the chuck about ride style but offer slightly more room and a little more stability.

Anyone got one? Any pointers on decent bike and bike part websites? I've not taken much interest in bikes for a long time really. :D I'll admit it's 80% they look cool and 20% actually using it for sensible stuff but big boys mean big toys lol.

Cheers guys

Or buy local where the shop will help you with what you want or need.

Totally different but have you checked out Fat Bikes, or do you really want a single speed BMX.

Or maybe check out Fixed gear or single speed 26" bikes.  Fixie stunts vids etc.

I must admit the fat tyre bikes look very cool but I dont think they're my style to be honest. I like the idea of a basic BMX, little to go wrong with it and tough too.

Thanks for the links though, a few hours browsing there for sure :D  I've found a nice bike on ebay, it's make by SE Racing and seen little use, couple of hundred quid but I figured I'd get more for my money going used over a brand new one. I've not bought it yet though, just going to do a bit more reading.

None of my local shops seem to have anything 24" available, could always go on a road trip I guess, or just bit the bullet and go for it lol.

Cheers again.

Years ago i used to build up 24" and 26" Street Trials bikes for people as the only 24" BMX were Racing 24" ones & Coasters.

I was involved in BMX's freestyle and ramp comps and parks since back in the early 1980's, and built up quite a few over the years.

Best get trying one first and see you are fine with never being in the saddle.

Been going to put my sons trials bike back together for about 3 years now, will do this week.

I did clean it since i took the photos, need to build up new wheels.

I like how basic they appear to be, but yeah, I should probably try one first. :D

That looks pretty cool, kinda like a cross between a BMX and a dirt jump bike maybe, is that a type of bike or is it a bit of a one off thing?

Loads of Manufacturers do Jump Bikes.

Higher bar bmx stylee ones are a big thing now as street bikes around the world.

Did you check out what comes in different wheel sizes

http://alansbmx.com

This pretty much covers what is important about a BMX and parts no matter what wheel size you go for.

Big Boy toy....

Thanks George, I'll have a look at those videos later (when the mrs isnt watching Corrie).

Done a bit of reading and looking through those links, I'm liking the larger 26 inch 'Jump' style bikes, Tredz have some nice bikes. I need to go try one when I can, my brother told me today he had something similar but flogged it a while back. Shock horror :dull: :D

Might look at a cheaper one to start off then if I enjoy it look at an upgrade via the cycle to work scheme.

Thanks again!

Hi, might be worth looking around on Facebook etc for local buying and selling groups, where I am in Oxfordshire there is a specific group for buying and selling cycling stuff, you might be able to pick up a bargain.

I decent mid range S/H bike will be a better bet than a budget new one and can probably be sold on again without a great loss if you do decide to upgrade in the future.

That was your first post. You're not allowed to send PMs until you've made more. @john999boy may know how many (and may even remind me?)

The actual reason is that George doesn't want to receive PM's!

However, and bearing in mind that quoted post was from 2018, I wonder if @roottoot can cast some light on the subject?

EDIT:- Looks like he beat me to it!

I have a Specialized Fatbike advertised on the forum. 26 X 4.6 Tyres.

A 2017 model not used much when it was new.

Maybe of interest to someone on here in Scotland or maybe Ireland as on the route from Cairn Ryan.  Not a heavy bike.
