Picking up new Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hello there good people,

I drive a seat ibiza cupra tdi myself but the girlfriend has just bought a new skoda fabia VRS.

Is there anything we should be looking at when she picks it up?

Thats if we get it in the morning they have not managed to register in two weeks so might have to be Monday now!

Has anyone on here used this dealer, chapmans of pickering? They are local and gave a decent discount when pushed but the service so far is very poor and not even collected a car yet! They told us CD multi-changer was standard, i knew it wasnt but didnt argue so now they have had to buy us another car in with one fitted!

Anyway thats enough rambles from me, looking forward to some advice, i use www.seatcupra.net and you guys come well recommended

when i picked my vrs up it only had a 5 speed gear **** on!

Welcome to Briskoda.

I think that after driving your girlfriends Fabia , you will be surprised at its relative refinement compared to your Ibiza, and indeed the performance.

If she is thinking of modifying it , this site will be invaluable for its helpfulness and (usually) impartial advice.

Thanks for your helpfull advice, i will be sure to check its 6 Speed!

I have test driven one and was very impressed, much more refined and softer sprung than the manic ibiza cupra. The ibiza is great fun when your really pushing along hard but not so comfortable on long runs.

As for mods i remap cars myself and have already chipped a fabia VRS so hers will soon be getting the "treatment" once she is happy with the standard car.

They have not got it registered so its monday to collect now, no car untill then as she has cancelled insurance on her Focus, that was only six months old but a complete disaster!

A diesel pump - mine was nearly empty when picked up new...

I wouldnt be at all surprised at an empty fuel tank, be more suprised if it really is ready monday, they wont even stay behind an extra half hour to do handover after she finish work!

Travelling in order for servicing methinks!

Well just been out in the car and they have done a great job preparing it and did hand over after normal working hours so gained a few brownie points back!

Very nice level of finnish in comparison to the seat ibiza, lights in glove box and boot, clip for parking permit, fuel cap release etc.

Other things not to my taste, that extra wipe to scrape a dry windscreen! Space saver spare wheel, the cupra gets a full size alloy spare.

All in all though very happy and for a car with 30 miles on the clock it goes very well really. She wont let me remap it yet but i have the software ready!

Are you sure? My car has a full sized spare - albeit a steel wheel - but the same tyre as fitted to the normal wheels. So at least they're not cheating you out of a tyre...

Ermm yeah, make that three of us  OK, it's a steelie, but it's fullsize.

Steve

im sure it says full size steel wheel on skoda website. is it an 06 plate? must have changed from older versions.

I best have a better look at it guys it could be my mistake it was dark!

All in though it does seem a good car, be fun once mapped. The brakes are not to good but maybe they will be better when they bed in.

Love the overall finnish though, better than the ibiza

just curious as to what map you are going to put on it?

I remap my own cars, i have done a few fabia vrs so i will use some of that software or maybe mod some special for the car, its the girlfriends so nothing to strong and keep good economy.

On the ibiza i have gone the other way and had it on rolling road at 198bhp but the torque is to much for the clutch to be honest

198bhp is impressive! how is the power delivery do you have any graphs? Do you have any additional mods on that - exhaust or filter maybe? Feel sorry for all the people behind you that must get covered in soot :D!

Its not so sooty as when i first bought it and tried a tuning box!

The ibiza cupra tdi is 160 to start with , its a larger turbo and big front intercooler so there is room for some good improvements. Not got a graph to upload but the power delivery is ok, the 130 engine tens to be smoother though, less turbo lag
