I knew you were planning to upgrade your subwoofer, that's why you were thinking about MDF...

Seriously, it is plenty loud enough for me :) ;)

Just my experience but at the moment  Skoda > Seat

I cut out the quote just to make the thread shorter - I feel you.

My experience with Skoda dealers here was not great, but my Seat experience with the ONLY dealer in town is really starting on the left foot - car went in with several issues to solve and... After one werk I can tell they solved: None.

This was pretty much my experience. They are the only SEAT dealer within an hours drive and they have a captive customer base, they dont care about anyone just about the money. I jumped out of my Leon after 18 months and a 43% equity loss. Couldnt keep it any longer!

I think the Leon FL has better quality, at least interior, than the pre-FL.

...at least for the Cupra - don't know about other trims.

My 3yo VRS from 2015 had loads of rattles when I traded it in.

I really don't know what pre-FL Leon you were looking at but I had two 5F Leon FRs and went and looked a the latest Cupra 300 ST 4Drive and there was absolutely no change to quality or improvements to interior plastic and trim, whatsoever.   None at all and I really wanted there to be as an Eclipse Orange ST with every option ticked was a lot cheaper than other cars I was looking at.

I also looked at an Octy vRS 245 Estate and Golf R.  Both of which felt substantially better than the Leon but in turn both of those were lagging behind my current Superb.

And on the rattle front I had soundproof my own Leon; doors, boot, behind the binnacle and under the bonnet.  It was like driving around in an oil drum.  Mine was not an isolated case as it was a common complaint on SCN.  The FL model is just the same from what I've read.

In fairness though; my ST FR never had a single fault in 3 years.   Apart from having to rip out the interior trim and apply Silent Coat and Absorber foam it was actually trouble free.

When I hear the lease deals for the Leon 300 on the radio I'm tempted for a couple of seconds but sadly the reality for me is that the local dealer is a joke shop and I got severely burned by my mk3 Leon FR. Having had my VRS I now know which marque I think has the better quality inside and out. Ive not had a ny faults with my skoda in 2 years, the mrs skoda has been back once because the pano roof cracked. The Leon was bavk in for warranty work at a rate of roughly once every two months, maybe more frequent but I dont want to exaggerate.

Sat nav that would think it was in wolfsburg, headlights that wouldnt self level (took 3 times turning the car off and removing the key), undiagnosed rear suspension rattle, failed head unit, door cards off due to excessive rattling (4 times, smelled oddly of silicone sealant after the work), binnacle apart to repair a 'known issue' which didnt fix the known issue and then all the dealer issues afterwards.

Yeah I soundproofed my own doors, boot, and dash.  After my purchase experience with my only local dealer I decided to just find a good indy specialist for servicing etc.

I also had my current location showing in Wolfsburg but it was only when I pressed the car icon to take me back to my current location on the sat nav map.  A reset was the only way to fix it.  Not ideal when you're relying on the nav unit for directions.

Have you seen how much your first year road tax will be on the Superb 280 assuming it's registered after 1st April 2018. Now emissions based VRS245 goes from £200 to £205 , but VRS184 DSG 4x4 will go upto £515 in the first year and the 280 I believe will be £830 in the first year!

I thought £515?!

Will the 245 be five hundred quid ?

I am waiting on delivery of  a Leon ST 4Drive. Have had numerous pre facelift Leons as hire cars and the facelift model definitely has seen an improvement in interior quality.

I did have a VRs245 on order but cancelled due to the inability to give an indication of delivery. After cancelling it was a straight choice between a Golf R and the Leon. Dismissed the Golf because I thought the interior was chintzy, a mainstream car trying and failing to look premium, I actually prefer the more workmanlike interior of the Leon. I'd put the Octavia ahead of both the Golf and Leon

Had a look at a Golf R in the showroom and was really unimpressed by it, considering how everyone goes on about "VW quality". I really didn't notice anything significantly better than the Octy. In fact, the leather on the seats seemed really aged and slack - quite low-rent. The virtual dash was nice, though...

I share the opinion, coming from another Octavia with high trim. I suppose people refer to lower packages, I don't really know. Wagen has a bit of more fancy details in the trim, but overall doesn't make significant difference, at least to me.

Maybe there is, but simply I am not able to see. Comparable quality, better on the VW side, but not at all significant.

Certainly not enough to command VW's premium cost!

But I bet (not that I’ve been fortunate enough to try) when you put your foot right down in the Golf, the interior quality, perceived or otherwise, will matter not a jot!!

It doesnt....   i find the interior quality in my Golf R to be very good, maybe not to some Audi quality but still very good for a Golf,i found the interior quality very good in my MK2 octy vrs that i ran for 6 years & i would say the golf is slightly better & a nice place to be in,i agree about the comments ref the leather, mine has cloth seats as i dont like leather but ive seen some Golf R's fitted with leather with wear already & poor quality leather.

The amount of time you can truly enjoy the engine pales in comparison to the amount of time you spend just sat in it as a daily commute (unless you're flush enough to have it as a weekend car!)

Engine is important, but how well you get on with the interior, in my mind, is more important!

Agree to a certain extent but surely the whole point of a hot hatch is the 'complete package' factor? It should be a nice place to sit in a traffic jam, ferry the kids around and then put it's hands down your pants when you're alone and find yourself on a dry B road in {insert_fave_driving_location}.    Basically it should be as versatile as:

Consider the Renault Mégane RS - really focussed driver's car. Very quick. But would you have one - and have to deal with electrical & mechanical problems from day #1 and shonky build quality? Plus those tail lights...

Then, there's the new Civic Type R... HIDEOUS! What's so surprising is that you can spec it with EVEN MORE spoilers! At least the dashboard is more conventional now - the last two generations were terribly dated!

Both quick cars - quicker than the vRS (just!), but I genuinely wouldn't have either one if you gave it to me because I wouldn't be able to live with them day-to-day!

Sorry Penguin you are right I was looking at diesels emitting between 151-170gms of co2.

No it's going up to £205 first year and £140 every subsequent year for road tax.

It spurred me to recheck! Almost made me spit out my Lindt Easter egg when I read your post (almost)

The alcantara seats in a VRS245 look and feel much better quality than cloth seats in Golf GTi or R.

Absolutely spot on.

I’d never have another French car as long as there’s a hole in my @rse...

Over the years I’ve had:

Renault 19 16v

Citroen Saxo VTS

Peugeot 207GT

and all of them have broken down.

Agreed. The Golf R seats remind me of the ones in my mk2 Octy vRS. Not bad 12 years ago but the game has moved on.

Agree about both those cars. Civic Type R with the 3 exhausts past me tonight on the motorway and felt sorry for the person driving it with those garish 1980's red SPORTS seats. Also new Megane shares it's 1.8 turbo engine with the ALPINE sports car featured on last TOP GEAR and we all know how that story ended with Chris Harris and Eddie Jordon nearly KFC'd.
