Water in Scout's foglights

Featured Replies

Having waded through some deep flood water in my Scout a couple of weeks ago, I now have a lot of mist in the foglights.

By leaving the foglights on the mist reduces  but comes back again when the lights go cold.

Is there any way that I can clear the misting?

thanks

I think you are looking at new units. They are sealed, so once water gets in, you are stuffed.

Just had my nearside fog replaced. Bumper off job due to the washer fluid reservoir preventing access to the screw from the inside. Offside can be done without taking the bumper off.

This is for a vRS. Hopefully your Scout may be different!

Hi Lard-AJC,

I'd remove the lamps and leave them on a radiator for a couple of days to dry out fully (or hairdryer them).  It's easy to do as I removed mine when I fitted Night Breaker bulbs to my Scout.

Pull the black plastic trim off above the light, there's a torx screw (possibly 2) and then unplug the bulb and the whole unit comes out.  If there's any obvious seal issues then you could re seal.

Thanks Scout CJB, will have a look into that later today

ScoutCJB: that worked perfectly.  Easy to remove, now sitting on a radiator drying out

thanks very much!

Glad I could be of assistance :)

trick is is to make sure they are completely dried out as any moisture could cause them to mist up again.

Are there no breather holes on them?

Usually there are, whilst this lets water / moisture in, it also allows it to escape when conditions allow.

No breather holes, they have been mist free for 90k, just the flood wading that must have forced water in around the bulb bungs.

Thought I had fully dried them, apparently not as misted overnight. Onto the log burner this time...

I'd be giving it a couple of days to dry out ..... tape up the plugs on the car and then you could drive it without them fitted if needed.

Is all the water out now?  Shake them a bit and see if any drops of water are visible as a test
