ECU remapping

Featured Replies

Has anyone had there Skoda Octavia 2013 1.4 tsi remapped, it apparently increases power by 21%, improved throttle response and additional 30bhp. What I really what to know is how does this impact on the turbo, gearbox, clutch, cam belt etc

is it really worth spending the money, £250, or will the remap result in additional costs whilst reducing the longevity of the engine.

Well I can’t say about my petrol vrs I did have my mk5 golf gt sport remapped. Was 140bhp to 190bhp done over 80,000 miles in it with no issues.

The mk7 GTD I had the DTUK Tuning Box with no issues.

I have not got the vrs remapped yet as where I want to get it done I’m nowhere near for a few months so will do it then.

If your still in warranty I wouldn’t remap it until out of warranty.

Who is doing it, is it their custom remap or a generic?

'Can increase power by 21%, even more, maybe less.  Maybe the standard car has 5-10% more max PS before the remap.

So read the bumf carefully, see if the map is with 95 ron or as some say 98 ron.

Go where you can trust, get a before and after dyno.

The Remap might well be better than the VW Group Engine Management - Software.

21% increase will not harm a 1.4 TSI with good service consumables like the correct spark plugs at the correct gap.

Will void a Manufacturers Warranty or even an After Market one possibly, read the T&C's.

So if you break something just pay up yourself, no point making a Warranty Claim on Engine / Gearbox / Drivetrain hardware.

I've had 5 cars remapped over the years.

Only 1 went bang due to the engine injesting the turbo blades (VW 1.9 TDI 150) the others have been fine.

It will make a difference but go into it with your eyes open.  Inform your insurance and if the worst happens be prepared to pay big.

I'd always be weary of having it remapped as if anything goes wrong with the ecu, you're buying a new one.

I've used power commander on 3 of my motorbikes and now I've got a dtuk box on my vrs tdi.

Plug and play, with no trace of them when you remove them
