Featured Replies

Due to the teething troubles in my new octavia vrs, I have been given a 55 plate Skoda Superb 2.5 Tdi v6 for the weekend. I'm not sure what trim level it is, but it has EVERY extra.

My goodness, what a lovely, lovely car.

The sound from the v6 diesel is reminiscant of my old 2.9 v6 24 valve Granada.

I'll say no more so your secret is safe, but I must be getting old, as I think i'm in love. :D

I'm thinking - swap dodgy Octy rs for edition 100 2.5 v6 tdi, with tiptronic. :D

What a piece of kit. Loves miles, hates fuel. With my lead foot, still getting 35 mpg +.

I haven't regretted it for a second......but Shhhhhhhsssshhh keep it quiet or everbody will want one

probably has things on it you don't know about yet as well ......front arm rest slides forward ....back seats fold down and even have a lock on them to stop people getting in the boot ...the list goes on

And on.....and on......and on. That's praise indeed from the vRS pilots!

Unfortunately, we had to have the Tiptronic box, as SWMBO's health wouldn't allow a manual at the moment. Have to say the auto box saps a lot of the power, certainly on the 1.9. I might ask our dealer if I can try a manual, as I think I may be shocked at the difference. I drove the sister-in-laws knackered PD115 Passat a little while ago, and was pleasantly surprised how much quicker it was through the gears trundling around town.

You are right though Rob, we do need to keep it quiet. (Superb, the thinking man's vRS? )

Well, ive done around 500 miles in it now, and feel like ive done 10. I could never tire of driving it, and should my circumstances change at all, and I find myself needing to be covering a lot of necessary mileage, the superb v6 tdi will be on the top of my shopping list.

Its not slow either, as the 55 plate st focus driver found out. He wasn't getting anywhere. The v6 tdi is a slow starter, but seems to come into its own at 50 mph + and pulls relentlessly. On my private track, i attained 145 mph.

I would opt for the tiptronic myself though, as the manual doesnt suit the lazy v6 imo. First gear is merely to get the wheels moving, and pulling away from second in an empty car seems no trouble at all.

My fuel consumption today is 39.6 mpg, that was on an 80 mile round trip, using cruise on the 30 miles of motorway.

Nice car.

Can't be compared to a vrs anything though. I mean, from a driver involvement standpoint. Much more refined and comfortable, and eats miles, but it doesnt slip into sporty character for the twisties. Understeer is HUGE, as is body roll, and the brakes wouldnt take more than a feew good presses before fade set in. Not what it was designed for though.

Fantastic luxury motoring, at a very good price, with excellent fuel economy too.

So wheres the best deals on Superbs at the moment, might be looking for a 140 bhp Diesel Elegance

Same here;) , and while there are a few times ( a very few times:D ) I miss the extra push of the Octy, no way would I be tempted to give up the Superb right now:thumbup:

Whats the secret? the post title has most definately lost me...

but the superb is definately superb! love the electric seats and the fact that they're heated! still not sure about the interior colour....I could live with beige but I'm just not into the walnut at all.....I'm pretty sure thats the bit that was encouraging the 'old man driving' dave, oh, and the fact that you are, infact, an old man!

Beautiful car though, and just glides along......If I was a posh business-woman - I'd have one!!

so have you and dave tested the spacious back seat then?

Having changed from a Bora to a Superb I was not a fan of the Superb's beige interior but it has grown on me and I am happy with it now, I always see these interiors with the walnut trim and I am just very glad that I don't have that in mine!! It looks terrible!!

The Superb however was definately a good change for me and by the sounds of it, others approve of their change as well?

You dont have to have a beige interior!! you can have black or grey aswell - it sounds like you must have beige from some of the posts!

Also regards the huge understeer comment - yep your right it does have quite a lot of understeer - however the 130pd doesn't have anywhere near as much weight up front so is a considerably better handler with much less understeer than the V6, also its just as fast, and infact if re-mapped/dragon'ed is considerably faster than a standard V6 and much easier to get off the line due to less weight (the torque of the diesels negates any weight over the driven wheels advantage you might expect from the V6 derv).

The V6 petrol is a different story though!! just love the petrol V6 engine note!
