Speed cameras

Featured Replies

Does anyone know how to put speed cameras on satnav. in my Kia I had an app that would connect to my phone automatically via Bluetooth and give me speed cameras. not sure if skoda connect does this but I can't get it to connect to hotspot anyway

Sorry, don't have built in nav. I use waze on the Karoq screen via Android Auto. Shows speed limits, gives a warning bong, and the "crowd-sourcing" element warns of cameras etc ahead.

With the Yeti Sat Nav there was a Skoda Portal that you’d have to convert you POI’s (speed cameras) into a format that was compatible.  Unfortunately I have never been able to get this to work satisfactorily and use a legacy VW site (German) to make the conversion.  It’s a pain in the B*M.

waze is a good alternative, if you get you speed cameras from PocketGPSworld, you can use the camera app and it will give a “ping” whatever Android Auto app is being used, this is what I tend to do and use Google maps.

Not helping you much I’m afraid.

Thanks  guys I will try waze but it's  bit of a pain plugging in phone every time.

True, but at least it keeps the phone charged too.

I believe a wireless version of AA is being worked on, but there'd be a battery trade off.

Mr Amazon is bringing me a short cable which I'll leave in place ready for the phone. It'll connect and sit there with the Karoq cover in place. Much neater than on our Yetis.

At the grand age of 60 Im suddenly feeling quite old. Portal, ping, legacy, waze POI's and PocketGPSword have passed me by. Alls not lost however -I have heard of Android Auto.

@OldKaroq,

well if truth be be told I’m 70+, but I’m also quite happy with tech stuff.

the Skoda update portal, http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/ is where in theory you can update maps etc., and the Places of interest (POI’s) destinations, speed cameras, NationalTrust etc., can be converted from various formats, co-ordinates into a format that can be loaded into the Sat Nav, http://mydestination.skoda-auto.com/?appVIN=&appLanguage=en-GB

Pocket GPS world is a site that can provide speed camera data and various other POI’s, petrol stations, gyms, English Heritage sites etc.  https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/

The VW legacy site is there for non current, legacy, Sat Navs etc.

Waze is an app for use on your phone, Apple, Android that is maintained by the users to provide maps, traffic, etc., a good application.

hope that helps. Ernie

Respect Ernie!!  Ah it makes more sense now. Im not very tech, and tend to live in the past a little! Many thanks for the brill explanation.

@OldKoroq, no problem, it’s one of the joys of the Briskoda forums, I’ve learnt so much.  I’ve joined, for obvious reasons, a Subaru forum whilst I wait for my delivery of the XV 2018, but it is nothing like the Yeti/Karoq ones.

69 this year. Just spent a few happy minutes importing contacts and pics, and allocating station logos on DAB/FM. Already had AA done and loving the "crowd sourced" element of Waze.

Ah, the old soixante-neuf. I vaguely remember that. But that's another story.

This worked for me, there was a one off cost or you can go for an annual subscription. The install was easy and there was not file conversion or transfer issues. It installed first time and the instructions are good

After looking at various ways of getting speed cams on my Columbus unit I decided this sounded the easiest.

However....

I have downloaded this on to my Mac unzipped it (I think, double clicking apparently dose it) and tried various methods to get it to upload to my car but no luck.

Can anyone help me?

Just checking that you selected the Columbus version? I'm sorry if it's caused a problem but the link I posted was to the Amundsen version

Another Waze user here, generally find it more up to date and informative than inbuilt car systems.

I changed it to the newest version of the Columbus system before I ordered it - Skoda Columbus 2 (2017)

As far as I am aware this is when they last changed the system.

To me it seems that there is no easy way of adding speed cams and for only £11 I thought I would give it a go.

I will give it another go later but using Windows and see it that works.

Good luck, I followed their instructions step by step and it worked without any issues. Hope you get the same result
