RFL... Let's just call it an accounting error...

I'm not sure what's worse, calling it road tax, or going to the effort of calling someone out publicly for calling it road tax.

It really doesn't matter.

I think this is what I've taken issue with.

It's a tax you pay for using the roads albeit not spent on the roads.

If you choose not to run a road vehicle, you don't pay the road tax.

Well this topic has taken a bit of a turn lol

I got a quote from a dealer where he states the Road Fund License as £515 but i specced 1.4tsi 150hp DSG - 2wd (he advised it would be 1.5tsi) which should £205 as it isnt the 4x4.

I basically got him to admit it was his mistake.

He also booked £590 for delivery - after i queried it, he said it was delivery from the factory to the dealership.

Is that what is standard or is he trying to pull a fast one.

I was hoping for a further £900 off but he is sticking to his gun, he isnt changing the quote price.

Is he hedging his bet against the 1.5tsi as the prices for those engines are not out yet?

The 1.4 TSI 150PS DSG has a VED band - H.

As you've mentioned, for petrol engines this equates to a first year rate of £205 (£515 if a diesel)...

You haven't told us which specification you've been quoted for, but this is important as the OTR (On The Road) price is dependent on both the engine and trim level...

Either way, the pricing should be absolutely transparent.

Assuming a 5-seater SE L, you can see here that the difference between the RRP (Recommended Retail Price) and the OTR is £850.

Take from that the Road Fund Licence @ £205 and the DVLA First Registration Fee @ £55 and your 'delivery' price is £590, exactly as your dealer has quoted you.

Well, we started talking about this in connection with what it said on people’s invoices from their dealers. And if your dealer said he or she was charging you for road tax, you’d whack the invoice right back .... wouldn’t you??

Would it matter if it said Kodiaq, but what you got was a Karoq? Precision is a welcome thing.

Come back Yeti Section, all is forgiven.

The quote was for a 1.4tsi 150hp dsg edition (2wd) with options worth £2010.

The carwow quote was £27,992 but he sent a bill for £30,492, i was trying to understand the difference.

£30,492-£27,992 = £2,500

Sorted out is the £515 against £205 for the first year VED

Registration is £55

Delivery is £590

£590+£55+£205=£850

£2500-£850=£1650

I cant find where the £1650 came from...

As an addendum, i was going  through the configurator and came across this pop-up, i got a screenshot of it.

I believe Carwow quotes are meant to be on the road prices. No hidden charges as they say.

So delivery, tax :tongueout:, registration included.

we still get people saying silly things like "I pay my road tax; why don't they mend the potholes?".

Don't forget the abuse hurled at cyclists because we don't pay "road tax"...

I think the term has transcended the actual description. I still call it Road tax and I'm the biggest pedant ever. It's become generic like Hoovers and...................I can't think of any more. :D
