Moving ECU from one vRS to another vRS

Featured Replies

Is moving the ECU from my 1.8T vRS to another similar car possible and/or easily done, ignoring any differences in engine specs and mappings? Are there immobiliser considerations, coding, key issues and all that to contend with? I can't imagine that it'll be as easy as rip the ECU out of my car, nail it into my mates' car, start it up and drive off!

@Mankee - Presuming that by "ECU" you mean the factory EMS, then the short answer is "no". You'll need to sync the EMS with the body ECU, immobiliser and keys.

Cheers, Ken. I thought that might have been the case. I'll looking into immo defeating the engine ECU then, as long as that doesn't roger the mapping and other functions that have been modified from standard.

@KenONeill Revisiting this one, Ken, and anyone else for that matter. I have today removed the engine management ECU, clocks, CCM and lock set (ignition barrel, driver's door lock and boot lock) from my car.

As a bare minimum to get my engine management ECU to run in another vRS, the ECU and clocks need to be swapped and the transponder pickup around the ignition barrel would need to "see" my key to enable the engine to start. Is this correct?

And if the plip central locking is to work, the CCM needs swapping over and, optionally, the lock set.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Mankee, remember me? Its Ben that came up and had the intercooler and Magnex system off you a while back.

Anyway I relation to this I have recently purchased an ecu from ebay which has an Rtech stage 2 map so with the right mods it should be 240-250bhp

The immobiliser has been mapped out of the ecu and I've been insured this is all that is needed to swap from one car to another.

The previous owner of the ecu did the same as me and purchased the ecu only and had no issues with it and was just plug and play.

If you struggle selling yours as a complete package it may be worth sending the ecu off to someone who could perform the immobiliser delete on the cheap if you can find someone, then be able to sell all the other parts separately and make more money back in total

Hi Ben, good to hear from you! I thought I spied a picture of my old intercooler on the forum.

Yes, I thought about getting the ECU immobiliser-deleted. In the long run, it'll probably work out the same as if I sold the ECU/CCM/dials/lock set as a complete kit versus sending the ECU away for unlocking and selling it separately.

Let me know where you end up with your car. Mine was also mapped by R-Tech.

you can clone the me7.5 easily with software from nefmot, or desolder the eeprom and read it with a chip reader and google me7.5 immo off for the hex how to
