It is not about the £2.25 a tank fill less.

Royal Dutch Shell like to be secretive about the Detergent Packages, and really a Twincharger prone to 'Bore Wash' wants the octane not the detergent.

It might be the same detergent from Greenergy in the Momentum 99, as the base fuel comes into the UK from the same shared facilities that Greenegy & RDS own.

The thing is Momentum works well, as does COSTCO 99 Super Unleaded,   Shell -V-Power just a rip off price, and secret detergents. IMO.

(but then the detergents are much the same where ever they come from....

maybe the issue, Gasoline & Detergents,  Long Life Oil,  Bore Wash and also burnt out valves, poor OEM Spark Plugs and Software.)

wow, didn't realise there was much in them.   just normal fuel and dear fuel haha.     forgive the ignorance, but what's bore wash haha?

Hi and welcome to the forum.   You will have probably spotted a few posts from me on here as we have had to have engine changed 3 and a half years ago, and just this past 8 weeks or so have

  • People virtually never sign up to a forum to say how pleased they are with their purchase.   The only advice I can offer is to: make sure that you obtain a one year Skoda warranty

  • Kills twinchargers, or a major contributor to their premature demise, VW recommend Castrol / Quantum long life oils. That is VW that never admit to the failure rate of the 1.4TSI /TFSI 132-136kW engin

ah, got ya.   I imagine a lot of people would just put 95 in when they bought them new.

^^^

Main dealers did certainly with the first Demonstrators, then after 3 months / 3,000 miles people bought them used and a good few needed engine rebuilds.

But then Dealerships or Salespeople driving them were waiting for Low Oil Warning lights and they were not coming on until the oil was 1/3 rd low.

They have to run on 95 ron, it is just that they do not do that quite as the Engineers had the Mapping.

Then the Media cars were out their getting 95 ron and a bit of a thrashing.

This was NathvRS's that had an engine expire, sold as in need of repair,

Skoda UK should have paid up for an engine for this one.

I wonder if AUTOCAR care that the cars engine was scrap so soon from new.

They never have pulled VW Group up on the 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twincharger engine failing to my knowledge,

but then Haymarket Media Group that own AUTOCAR, WHAT CAR, PISTONHEADS do have VW as a client,

and even are involved in the launches of new VW Group vehicles.

I'm sure TheGrinch did indeed end up with a new engine, I think he mentioned it on a recent post on facebook while discussing the DSG problems I was encountering, happily he indicated he was thinking about reappearing here. He too has a good technical knowledge.

Offski is spot on again with the advice re fuel, if you have a Tesco near you it's worth the couple of miles extra to get the 99 Ron fuel into these cars. A quick look back over the years at the threads where people have had engine problems tells you it's better to treat these engines as well as you can in terms of using the best available and doing the right things to protect them. It's not that they're fragile as such as the good outweigh the bad, it's just that great care should be taken in servicing with the items they really need as opposed to what the main dealer recommends, our experience with the main dealer left us to conclude that the product knowledge is far greater outside the dealer network than within.

Good luck with the car, and if giving it some beans give it some time to reach around 80* first, and if you have been giving it the beans for a wee while, try to let it cool down to closer to 90 before switching off, even if it takes 5 minutes or so, usually slowing down for the last parts of your journey will suffice.
