Technology pack no longer available?

Featured Replies

My Bear was supposed to be coming with the Technolgy Pack that includes the wireless phone charger etc, but the dealer heard today that Skoda is not supplying these any more. Has anybody else heard this, or is it just the dealer getting things wrong?

Strange, wireless charging still seems to come as standard on the Edition model...

The only Entertainment and Communication optional extra's on the SE L are...

Just went on the configurator and tried to build a car with the same original spec that I ordered and there is no option to add a Technolgy Pack. So the dealer might be right 8-(

Seems an odd thing to remove, as when we ordered bear one (SEL) last year it was there and it arrived with it and it’s now disappeared.

You can spec the Technology trim instead now I believe

The technology trim, isn’t the same as what the technology pack was unfortunately, plus I can’t change the spec now as the car is built and on its way to Germany to be shipped to UK.

The Technolgy pack was:

Technology pack includes colour multifunction trip computer, phone box with external aerial, WLAN, rSAP and LTE

The SE Technology is aimed purely at business users (same on all Skoda models it is available on) - it is usually excluded from retail / finance deals, and has business leasing type deals instead.

We've ordered the technology pack so I just checked: our car is confirmed for build in week 17, and still includes the technology pack. So either the configurator has a glitch, or it's a change that only applies for new orders.

Mine had it in the order, but the dealer received an email saying that the phone box, charger is no longer being fitted.

Eek. What is your build date? I checked with the Skoda Chat rather than my dealer, as my dealer has been particularly uncommunicative. I didn’t ask them explicitly whether the tech pack will actually be fitted, just that it still shows on the order.

Mine was built on the 6th April, currently making its way to Emden from the factory.  But it wouldn’t be the first thing that my dealer got wrong.

The colour trip computer is apparently fitted looking at the spec the dealer says.

Appears issues with the Karoq's also - potentially relating to overheating of some kind

I can’t remember, but without the wireless phone charger, how many phones is it possible to charge at the same time in the front? If I recall, there’s a single USB port for CarPlay - is there another USB port or 12v socket available to use?

  • Author

Only other USB  is by the back seats. There is a 12v by the front USB.

Thanks. Any idea whether without the phone box, do we also lose the ability to fit a SIM card to the car so it has its own data connection (for re-sharing as a Wi-fi hotspot)?

It's part of the Columbus head-unit in the glovebox rather than anything to do with the phone box. However...

...would suggest there are two versions of the Columbus, one with a SIM slot and one without - and the Tech Pack upgrades it to the one with.

If you go to the SKODA web site and download the latest owners guide it now only has one glove box unit with two SD and one SIM socket(s)  for the Columbus on one page, but still shows the old and new glove box units on another. As they say nothing in life is simples peeps.

Just got off a live chat with SKODA and their answer was “it depends on what model your ordered” if you have a Columbus unit then you get the SIM card, if you don’t, you don’t get a SIM socket.

Hi Everyone.

Thought i'd give an update on this.

Skoda is removing Wireless Charging in ALL cars with "immediate effect"
In real terms it is coming into affect after build week 17.
My car is week 16 so should be OK but do check with your dealer.

The rumour is it is being pulled as they over heat.

This was my Dealers response

"You are correct, these have been removed with immediate effect without specific reasons - but yes I have heard the same rumours.

Cars that had it as standard specification have not been reduced in price (which I personally object to) but obviously this is different with your car.

Your family's safety must come first of course, but I will make sure you are in no way out of pocket whatever Skoda's stance."

Hope that helps

Thanks for the update. Our car is BW17, so I guess a complete lottery as to what spec we get. I will wait and see. I won’t be very impressed if it comes without it or the SIM card slot though - it was a see saw decision for us between the Kodiaq and the Tiguan AllSpace as it was.

Does the VW Tiguan Allspace still get both features?

The SIM slot  should still be there.

Talking to SKODA earlier, it was just the phone box charging that was no longer supported. It also seems that anything with a Columbus system (in UK, can’t say for other areas) gets the SIM slot.
