So it has taken a while for the reversing camera to appear on the Australian spec Octys, I can only assume it's because of the extra programming necessary to rotate the image 180 degrees...

(sorry about that)

Anyway, while looking online I've found at least four car sites that have stated the reversing camera is standard on mid-spec and higher 2015 Octys.  However, the current Skoda brochure doesn't list a reversing camera at all, and the online configurator and price sheets only list it as part of the $4000ish "Tech Pack".

I ordered my Ambition Plus spec Octy wagon on August 1, built in early Nov as a 2015 model, and now on a ship to Oz. Does anyone know what I should be expecting?

No reverse camera as far as i'm aware. I know it's going to be "Standard" next year though. But unless you ordered it, you may be SOL.

Just an update, my car turned up, with tech pack ordered in may before rvc was an option, and it has a rvc.

So, I didn't order one, but it came with one!

Winner :D

I wouldnt pay for one, but for free? SURE!

It looks like your car will be very similar to mine, an Ambition+ as well. The key difference is I didn't order the tech pack. That may be the deciding factor. I would like to have one as my wife (who will drive the car most) has difficulty parking. I guess we'll see in a month or so...

I collected my new Elegance here in the UK yesterday and miss the camera off the Kia as I have a bad neck/shoulders. I thought I'd ordered it but missed it off and by the time I realised my order was already locked in so I couldn't change it.

I hoped to retro-fit but the thread by the guy who started it just dies.

Is yours a wagon? They come with reverse sensors std. The sensors are a bit pessimistic I find (show red when there is still a bit of gap) but those combined with excellent visibility should be enough for 99% of people. The car feels surprisingly small to drive, despite having excellent space inside. My wife hasn't had any issues going from a Honda jazz to the Octavia wagon.

I am picking up my VRS tomorrow after waiting 7 months.  My one has the Teck Pack.  Will let you know if it has a camera.  Skoda Australia web site has the car builder and it gives you the option of selecting the Tech Pack with or without a rear camera.

Yeah, it is a wagon. Our carport roof is held by several thin steel poles. I'm not sure if the sensors will always detect them. A reverse camera would help.

Is it not a normal rectangular carport? Why are there poles behind the car? or is it kind of like a battleaxe block and you drive in then turn sideways?

I'm not sure if RVC is standard yet.....I thought for MY15 onwards it was, but the site still lists tech pack with and without (although when I bought, it didnt list it at all)

Sorry I just re-read that and it sounds harsh. Just wondering what sort of setup you have that you can't see backwards in/use mirrors for (or sensors). I know some people like rvc, but I rarely use it, prefer to look and use mirrors or sensors as a last resort. Up until 10-15 years ago, that's all there was, and people weren't crashing into everything.

I am with you on happy wife, happy life though. So understand why.

Don't worry, I didn't see it as harsh.

The carport doesn't have a lot of room in front so you have to do a 90 degree reverse to get in. I don't have a lot of trouble, but my wife has hit the poles a few times (in a smaller car). An RVC would hopefully help avoid dents and scratches.

It's not a deal breaker as we ordered the car when it wasn't an option, but seeing that report got my hopes up.

I'll find out in a month.

Sometimes I type things in a hurry on Tapatalk and when I re-read them I'm like.... Wow I sound like an asshole.

Fingers crossed for you it comes with it!

Being a new year, I just checked the Skoda website for an updated brochure.

The new brochure features a description of the RVC and while it doesn't say that it is standard, it also doesn't have an asterisk that it is only with the "Tech Pack" as Kessy and Drive Mode do.

The specification pages show it as standard on Ambition+ and higher (Part of Travel Pack on Ambition).

However, the configurator still shows RVC as being part of the "Tech Pack". Hopefully it's just out-dated.

Anyhow, my car was dropped in either Perth or Melbourne between Xmas and New Year's so hopefully I'll have it shortly.

New brochure available on the UK site too... Nicer front cover pic IMHO and see Candy White now officially £175 option... Otherwise think it's as per the November brochure..

Just a though , If you have park sensors, then i have found that on all my other Skodas these are quite sensitive to even narrow twigs overhanging into the road/ parking spaces, so hopefully she should be able to get by with just these, alongside using the wing mirrors, ( I have found that the wing mirrors make things seem nearer, still cant work out whether it is a good or bad thing)

It's good that they are fairly sensitive, and the camera is still no guarantee that the car will never bump anything. It would be a pleasant surprise, however.

It would be nice if all the various sources agreed on a piece of information, but I suppose Skoda doesn't want to advertise the 2015 improvements while they are still selling 2014s.
