Featured Replies

Hi guys i have a question for you who owns 2013 skoda 2.0.Me and my father want to buy used car with less than 60.000km on it and we are chosing between a4 2.0tfsi and octavia 2.0tdi 150ps.I want to know what are bad things about this tdi engine and what are common issues? What is average mileage this car can reach, because we plan to change it on 160k or 170k.I read that car doesnt seem powerful but we are currently driving clio with 75hp so....I heard there are problems with air conditioning and water pump.I can post link of the car that we want to buy but i dont know if it is allowed?

Hi,my 2013 150ps diesel elegance estate has now touched 105,000 miles, new water pump (leaking) and belt change at almost bang on 100,000,no problems with the A/C although i did have in my mk2 octaviva VRS tdi estate,my car has a tuning box fitted which pushes up to close on 190 ps but it still seemed pretty quick before this was done, great ecomomy in fact the only grief i`ve had in the 2 years i`ve had it is the heated wing mirrors don`t work and a front wheel bearing going,i`d buy the same again in a flash, look for the Elegance model got a good few bells and whistles over the se.

Thank you very much for fast reply.

There are two minor common faults on the 2013 TDis.

The first was boost pressure sensor wiring -> this was a known issue & easy to fix. If the car has already reached 60k its likely to have had it replaced already.

The second is the electronic water pump where the sleave sticks closed causing the engine to overheat.

It is common for the water pump to fail around 30-50k miles (so 50-80k km) which is about now for the car you are looking at.

There is a new part available & this issue is also well known by the dealer.

When you buy it I would ask for proof that the water pump has been changed (along with the timing belt) or ask them to change it before you buy.

Alternatively get them to put in writing that they will cover the warrenty on any water pump issues in the future.

All Octavias could also suffer from an issue with "booming" in the cabin.

Make sure you give the car a good test drive before buying it.

Otherwise, it is a great car for the money & I think you should have no problems reaching 175k km.

I am currently at 100k with only the issues above which were covered Under warrenty/contribution from Skoda.
