Octavia vRS...the future?

Featured Replies

Returning to the forum after quite a gap, having had an Octavia 2 vRS and then a Fabia vRS up to 2014.

Thinking of a new Octavia vRS petrol estate dsg at some time in the next 12 months but a bit puzzled because the 245 has disappeared off the Skoda configurator, which suggests imminent changes in the model range.

At the moment brokers are showing substantial discounts on both 230 and 245 models,so the latter drops from £30k to £23k,but I'm concerned that if new models arrive these discounts will go away.

£23k could be in my price range, but I can't see me going to £30k or more.

Anyone got a vRS crystal ball?

So the 245 is now available at £23k via a broker - really?

It wouldn't surprise me.

Production of the current Ford Focus has officially stopped in readiness for the new model coming to the UK in August, I priced up a Titanium X diesel for the wife with a shedload of options, RRP £26k, broker price £18.8k.

When manufacturers have a compound in Germany full of vehicles just sat there, you can pick up real bargains.

I don’t believe the 245 is available for £23k because a) orders aren’t being accepted and b. I can’t find any petrol VRS’ available from any of the big brokers. Are you sure that’s correct? Even if they are preregistered they got such a positive write up that I can’t see them being discounted by £7k

if *JP*  says which brokers are showing this then people could look see.   Simples really.

No Armed Forces Imports or the likes, some stock that was sitting in some country that has right hand drive cars.

There was a new pre-reg ‘18 plate 245 in autotrader for £23k about a week ago.   Looked a great deal considering similar cars with 3-6k mileage are over available for £24k

The Armed Forces cars that you speak of are not imports. They are UK registered cars that are exported, free of tax to overseas bases in Europe, and returned to UK usually when 13 months old.  It’s no surprise that so many VRS models are sold to the forces when it is considered that heavy discounts and a European light test can be achieved with a press of a few buttons on the infotainment.

New UK Registered VRS 230 Hatch with with tax paid (with military or blue light discount) is currently £19,895, so £23k quoted by the OP is not outside of the realms of possibility with brokers.

When I recently ordered my Seat Leon I was unable to order any of the petrol versions of the VRS, which made my decision slightly easier.

Carwow and the like still quote for new factory orders because they use an automatic system - the actual quotes aren’t produced by the dealer there and then, it’s all automated. I recently built one and after my 5 quotes came through, I queried availability with the cheapest dealer (24% discount on a 230), who explained this to me.

Also, Skoda say the petrol models are not available at the moment because new models are coming but unlikely to be announced 7ntil May with first built orders ready in early 2019. I for one am not happy as my PCP is coming to an end and I was all set to order a vRS. :(

It won't be £30k from a broker - guaranteed. The discount you see now will be available on the new model - not straight away, but will be after a few months.

Just look at the 1.5tsi SE-L which is available and has recently been released. You can get over £6000 off the price.

Before buying the Octavia, one of my alternatives was a 1.4tsi (150) Passat GT or R-line. List price was £27k, I could have bought it for £20800 from a broker. Soon after I collected the Octavia I still wasn't sure I'd made the right choice, especially when VW said they'd updated the Passat and included LED's as std equipment (previously a £900 option). I checked the broker and the price for the updated model - £22k. That put my mind at rest.

I've just checked the broker price a minute ago - that new updated Passat is now £20200 - it's an even greater discount. Given the choice now would I still have bought the Octavia? No, I'd have bought the Passat.

Yes the discount on the VRs may be dropped for a couple of months, but whatever new car Skoda decides to offer, it will eventually have the same or an even greater discount than is available right now.

Unfortunately my crystal ball doesn't do horse racing so if anyone has a tip for the Grand National tomorrow...  :D

Just checked again on autotrader and two 245s with less than 10 miles on clock available to buy at £23k + £25k.  Both pre-reg ‘18 plates. a grey hatch and a red estate, so prices definitely coming down
