Potential Dealer Problems

Featured Replies

On the 8th April i put a deposit down for a MK1 VRS SE at a dealer that shall remain nameless for the time being. I had a couple of items for them to check before i accepted the car. Tracking, noise from alternator pulley and fit a new centre console that was in the boot. I was told by the dealer they would ring me when it was ready. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the car to be done in a week, so as the days went past i hadn't heard anything so i rang to be told the car was going into the garage today (12th) then had a follow up call on the 13th to say it wont be ready for the weekend.

Now its almost been another week and i'm still to hear and i'm getting more and more worried about what they are doing to the car and why it is taking so long. Ideally i would like to collect this weekend so if it's not ready where do i stand? Can i get my deposit back? I would prefer to just find another car at this rate.

Contact them,'it is nice to talk, you know were they are, have the contact details,

ask what is happening and when the Deal you came to can be fulfilled and you get the car you agreed on, fit for purpose.

If un-happy with the answer and you want your deposit back ask for it.

What agreements have you signed, and what does it say.   What is written on your receipt for the deposit by the Dealer / Trader?

They can not steal your money, who ever they are.

They might try, but then you have the Police and Trading Standards to step in if Fraud or Theft is being attempted.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I called the dealer today and the sales person was away, i did speak to the service department and they didn't want to say anything despite them having to work on the car. I did receive a call back from the sales person stating the car is ready. So i will go down and inspect it very thoroughly on Saturday to make sure the problems have been resolved and the car is in the same condition as when i left the deposit.
