Hi

Took delivery of my 18 plate Superb III Combi at the beginning of the month. It's booked in for warranty repairs already (first issue at 300 miles on clock) hence wanting some community support! 

Love: All the toys on the Exec spec (plus I added a few from the options list). And that my bro's VW Phaeton doesn't have umbrellas in the doors. 

Hate: Fact that my old Mondeo never missed a beat in three years. Zetec spec was a bit spartan though.

What's wrong with the Superb?

 

You are always going to get some niggly issues as you purchase a new car.  That's what warranty's for :)  Also - its not the issues, but how they are dealt with that counts :)

 

I'm due to collect mine (exactly same spec and model) in the next week or 2.  It will be our 2nd Skoda Superb (current one is a 15-plate mark 2 estate) and its been the best car we've ever had.

The driver's window won't go down. I had used it three times to go in, out and back into a car park, and on the final exit, it didn't shift. I can't even hear clicking inside the door.

I'll post what the garage do, as you say, it's how they handle it from now on that is the real test.

I'd be interested to know whether your new car's tailgate will stall if there is an obstruction - the opinions on the forum seems very mixed as to what it should do. Mine has the strength of a professional wrestler and I wouldn't want to get in its way. 

Its supposed to stop, after some back pressure, however after testing it on both a Karoq and a Kodiaq, I wouldn't trust an arm getting stuck in them as I put LOTS of back pressure on it and it just slowed down, when the pressure released, it kept closing until it was completely closed.

 

I'll always make sure I'm well clear before closing :)  I believe if you need it to stop, you can press the button anyway (or the button on the key fob)

Other things: The car had no car mats - I didn't realise they were an option. The rather obviously named website "CarMats4U" sold me some mats that fit pretty well for a fraction of the Skoda price. However, their boot liner fitting is a bit iffy. I finally got it in and if I ever spill milk in the boot it will protect the carpet from going cheesy (I wonder who owns that Vectra now?). If you didn't order mats with your car, I'd get some ordered from somewhere like that. 

And I can't find the tyre inflation kit (I choose not to bother with a spare as I have breakdown cover). I'll ask the dealer when I take it in and maybe they'll throw one in for me.

Yep, mats are always optional accessories on ALL new cars, but most dealers will throw them in.  Skoda don't always throw them in - depends how nice the dealer is and how much they want a sale.

 

I think my Superb Mk2 Mats will fit (at least the rears) so I can buy a set of fronts from a website like you suggested.

 

Check the Umberella's are there in the doors also if the Tyre Inflation kit is definitely missing.  Its a fairly common tactic for dealers to nick them for a customer and forget to replace them for you.  They usually replace them after a nudge.

Apparently it's the window motor that is faulty. It'll get replaced tomorrow. I'll give my thoughts on the dealer when my Newbie status allows, but they seem to have improved since older posts were written. 

A warm welcome from a fellow Newbie!   Tell the dealer you're on a forum and reporting issues.  That usually makes them jump.

Thanks everyone. Car back and working properly. For those that don't know, the Superb III Greenline has special self-sealing tyres and NO emergency tyre inflation kit. See the posts on Super ROWI SEAL tyres on this forum.

How are you finding the 1.6 TDi?  I was tempted by that engine, but thought it would be a little underpowered for the size of the Superb (given that the 2.0 TDi 140 in my Mk2 was on the limit of acceptable IMO)

It's so much better than the Duratorq 1.6 TDCi 115 I had in the Mondeo (2015 model). That was gutless compared to my previous Ford 140bhp 2-litre (2008 model).

I had something similar to this engine in my VW Touran TDI Bluemotion. But that car was dynamically all over the place and I hated it pretty much from the first time I threw in into a bend and the traction control went berserk, so I can't make a good comparison. 

 

Digging around on this forum and elsewhere: 

1.6 TDI 120 250Nm at 1600 rpm then flat to 3250 rpm

Ford 1.6 Duratorq 115 peaks at 199Nm at 1750 rpm but then starts to tail off 

 

So the Skoda engine has 25% more torque with better delivery characteristics, making it easier to drive with a more predictable response. The Superb has different driving modes, but for my driving (some urban, mostly motorway) I really don't need anything other than ECO. I did have a play with sport mode on a country break, that sharpens up throttle and gives the steering more weight. 

 

Finally, the Superb 1.6TDI performs pretty much the way I remember the 2008 Mondeo 140bhp did. Not bad given that it is about 30% more economical. In short, I don't think you would have had a problem with the 1.6.

I find my current mk2 138bhp OK - but its a big car.  The new one is a 150 so much the same.  I'll be using ECO most of the time also.  If I didn't use the car to tow, and regularly have it fully loaded (big dog + 150kg electric wheelchair for my other half) I didn't want to push my luck :)
