Abs problem

Featured Replies

Hi guys my front wheel bearing went resulting in my abs light coming on got it replaced put new abs sensor on car was fine for 3 days abs light came on replaced cable and changed sensor again light still on any help would be appreciated thanks I also had it on diagnostic machine came back wheel sensor

More likely the bearing has not been correctly replaced and the sensor can no longer 'see' the reluctance ring.

The bearing was pushed up to the lip on the hub

With the correct tooling or by pushing on the drive flange?

With a hydraulic press

Yes but these bearings are Gen 2 and must only be pressed in by the outer shell. A hydraulic press can still be used to fit them incorrectly.

He used a big socket on the outside of the shell I remember it making a crack sound when it went in

Hmmm, you can't use a socket because the bearing has the hub flange already fitted to it. Doesn't sound right to me.

Did the diagnostic say specifically that particular wheel sensor?

Here's a photo showing where you must press to fit the bearing without damaging it and getting inner and outer into the correct positions.

He didn't push it in there he pushed it from the right hand side of photo

Unfortunately that is the wrong way and it's probably damaged, or at least its life will be reduced.

Lol try to save a few quid by getting the lad down road to do it so the ring that catches the sensor is probably knackered

Unfortunately yes. When you said you heard a crack, that might have been something breaking.
