Hi everybody.

I been driving a Skoda rapid 1.4 TDI (2016)  at 25k started overheating and coolant expansion emptied altogether. Took it to my local Skoda dealership for repairs  and was told after a full weeks diagnosis that one of the pumps was replaced as well as a thermostat. Forward 1500 miles the engine this time started overheating at over 110 degrees. Recovered to the garage again and still waiting for some good news!!??!! Any help with my predicament??!!

Hello Ted welcome to the Skoda forum :hi:, i think it must be more than the water pump the first thing that comes to mind is the head gasket , if you ask in the Rapid section you will get more reply,s best of luck ,

A warm welcome Ted!  As JED mentioned, head gasket springs to mind.  Have you noticed any clouds of whitish smoke on start up?   Also check the coolant hoses.  If they have replaced the thermostat then that should now be OK but would give the same problem.  May be an idea to go to an independent as dealerships can be slow on diagnosis.

Hello again  everybody,

Many thanks  for your welcome Oldman... Just got the car back today, Result  at last I hope!?!. Technician  explained  when the initial job was undertaken(pump and thermostat replacements) some residue was left over around  the regulator  hence  the reason  why  the engine overheated.  Therefore  the coolant  regulator  has been replaced.  I hope the problem  been solved!?!

My advice  is to 1.4 tdi MkIII owners if you notice the PDF system operating  at unusual intervals  seek immediate  help before the problem  escalates. Finally  I hope VW technical department  admit at least that there is an issue that should resolved  with this particular  engine  and state the facts  instead  of avoiding  responsibility.  Goodbye all.

Don't know if this is related but?

Thanks AG Falco
