Driving light bulbs

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced having to change driving light bulbs frequently pls?

One blows every few weeks and appears to be black inside.

blackening is usually oxygen getting in. are you buying cheap bulbs?

I had this issue with my 2012 Octaiva Elegance. Even buying the better branded bulbs they'd fail after a few weeks or maybe months.

I found that a firm thump with the heal of the hand on the panel to the outside of the DRL fixed it for a while. In fact I could get the bulbs to work for several more months by doing this when they stopped working. Ultimately however, the bulbs did fail.

I finally solved it by getting some LED bulbs to replace them - the 'smart' ones which CAN-Bus compatible (sorry, not sure of the technicalities of this). Anyway, they worked fine for ages till I sold it. They were bright though, very bright. Passed the MOT fine with 'em in.

For them from Auto Bulbs Direct.

I thought that the P21W bulbs used for the DRL function were long life?

They should be...

Doesn't mean that's what the OP has been fitting ;)

Indeed. They should be, and is what I used in my Octavia mentioned earlier. I began to wonder if it was the fitting or the voltage but never solved it until I fitted the LEDs
