Had my first long run yesterday, 130 mile round trip.

In eco mode I got 46mpg with 90% motorway, the engine has only done 200 miles though.

I thought 2 cylinder mode would kick in a lot more but only saw it flash up a few times.

I’m impressed with the ACC and lane assist though, makes for very relaxed driving.

It doesnt like it when you dont touch the steering wheel though, made me jump after the first couple of warning beeps when it jabs the brakes on.

2 cylinder mode only works above 1400 rpm and when on level ground or going down hill. I find it works less when you engage cruise control also. Wife amazed me last Friday when she averaged 54.3MPG in her Karoq SEL 1.5Tsi manual on her one hour commute home. Car is getting more economical as it passes 3,000 miles now.

Wife's Karoq 1.5Tsi SEL manual now done 3,233 miles since January and achieved best return today on 26 mile commute 58.9MPG. Air con off in ECO as it was only 9.5degrees outside at 5.05AM.

Here's the photo evidence.

Thats very encouraging!

Next day not trying too hard, driving slightly faster and managed 59.3MPG on the regular commute. Just keeps improving perhaps will hit the mythical 60MPG soon.:D

Had my 1.5 TSI SEL just over a week and covered 350 miles mostly at 30 - 60 MPH with a couple of 60 mile round trips, one crossing over the top of Dartmoor. The car shows 46.2 since last refuel. However I use full tank to full tank for a more true figure and got 38.6 which isn't bad at all, hopefully will get better over time and on longer runs.

For comparison my Octavia estate 2.0TDI gave 48 / 52 on same type of journeys.

Like you say, 38.6 mpg isn't bad for a new 1.5 petrol engine but the fact that the trip computer is showing almost 20% more mpg than what you are actually getting is outrageous!

See my post from 30th April in this thread, VAG trip computers can be optimistic. ;)

Find out tomorrow how accurate trip is on tank to tank fill.

Just filled the wife's 1.5Tsi SEL manual brim to brim squeezed 38.70 litres of unleaded in which is 8.51 UK gallons and actually covered 428 miles (not as photo that was earlier today) and average on computer read 50.2 MPG. Dividing 428 by 8.51 gives exactly 50.2MPG so this proves wife's trip is 100 PER CENT ACCURATE!

What’s the genuine brim to brim (multiple tanks of fuel) consumption?

Short journey snapshots from the erroneous dash display are entertaining, but not the whole picture.

Just for you been crunching the numbers, 10 tanks totalling 308.37 LITRES or 67.83 UK GALLONS. Miles covered on that fuel 3,358 at an average of 49.50 MPG. Perhaps I am the most economical Karoq owner ( of a petrol version) in the country!:D

I know that this is an emotive subject but wonder, am I the only person who does not care two hoots about fuel consumption?

I can easily work out if tank to tank is somewhere near the published figures, from then on I am not bothered.

I buy cars because I enjoy driving them. If I had to worry about fuel consumption, I would never drive, or is this just new car inquisitiveness to see if the real driving figures come somewhere near the published figures, then to be forgotten about.

I post this information so that people who have ordered a car (perhaps even their first car) can have some idea what the car is capable of and like you I am wealthy enough having spent £52,000 on our 2 cars in the past year and we own 2 homes, not to worry about how much it costs to fill them up. Having said that I am not wasteful and generally stick to the speed limit, unlike the vast majority of the vehicles that overtake me on the motorway everyday. They are usually the ones who end upside down on their roof, holding everyone else up who is driving sensibly.:D

I hear what you say and agree with you. I also stick to the speed limit (and often wonder why I have a rear view mirror as there is normally no-one there) :D

I am also fortunate at my time of life to be able to fund a new car without too much problem. Maybe an old romantic but my enthusiasm centres around driving, not running. If I had concerns about the fuel consumption of any proposed purchase, I would look at something more economical before putting my money down.

Go over the speed limit and instant flip guaranteed. It's like mumsnet in here!

Took the wife 1hour 45 minutes to get home yesterday to do her 26 mile commute, caused by 2 cars hitting each other on the A46 dualcarriageway travelliing in the same direction one ended up on its roof, go figure!

I managed 50mpg on a 180 mile journey consisting of about 90% motorway the rest minor roads.

Alas motorway driving is not just a steady 70mph. It was sometimes limited to 50mph or even 30mph.

I was pleased anyway, as the engine has done about 600 miles now.

What a pain. Were they speeding ?

They weren't driving with due care and attention as she passed the incident both vehicles were very badly damaged.

Ah so from a second hand witness account not having seen what happened but merely the result of a sample of one accident we get to speeding = car on the roof. I like it !

My first long run. (With no speeding Nickfrog )

Pleased with the MPG for a newish engine esp.

Nice to drive too.

PS. Does anyone know what the red world symbol means?

Correct. I spent a few hours looking in the manual for that :-)
