EGR sensor issue...?

Featured Replies

Firstly I'd like apologise since this question relates to my 12 plate Ibiza 1.2 TDi Ecomotive. I have asked this question on SEATcupra.net but sadly responses aren't the quickest.

I believe Fabia Greenline uses the same engine as my Ibiza, and so I wondered if anyone could help on here.

Engine check light illuminated, so a trip to the local independent garage.

Apparently there's four EGR sensors for my 1.2 TDi Ecomotive?

Both mechanics baffled since the error code does NOT denote the exact sensor at fault!! This means I could end up replacing multiple sensors could until the faulty culprit is revealed?!?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated :):)

What is the error code?

I'll contact the garage first thing tomorrow and get hold of it.

On the exhaust there are various sensors but for the actual EGR valve there is only one solenoid valve/sensor that operates EGR and one solenoid valve/sensor that operates a switch over valve for the cooling side of the EGR. I should be able to tell you more once you put the error code up. Also have you had the emissions update carried out on your vehicle?

Sadly I think that nasty emissions update was carried out by the previous owner. The tell tale symptoms of very low torque when accelerating from stationary/excessive turbo lag is present.

The local garage have confirmed that the error code is P0402. The mechanic told me it was EGR Temperature sensor.

Perhaps this info might help? :)

If I were you, I'd get it scanned with VCDS to confirm the software version running on the ECU and therefore if it's been 'fixed'. You might also have a sticker in the boot with 23r6 or 23r7 on it.

Assuming it has been 'fixed', you might qualify for the trust building measure: http://www.seat.co.uk/owners/diesel-engines/trust-building-measure.html

The only thing confusing me is you say an EGR temp sensor. There’s temp sensors on the Exhaust but not for the EGR valve. That code is to do with EGR though I believe. As langers2k said above I would go down that route if it’s had the Update carried out

Information appreciated:)

Ah, so once this emission update has been performed a coded sticker denoting this is placed in the boot area?

Ill ask the garage if they are indeed using VCDS. I'm due to sell the car in the near future, as much as I'd like to be compensated by VAG I doubt it'll be in my possession by the time this issue is ironed out.

Thanks for the link containing details of the error code.

A little research elsewhere reveals that after this emision update the EGR Valve and or the cooler might be at fault rather a temperature sensor. I do wonder if the EGR unit was to be cleaned  that it might rectify the issue?
