To un-chip a car before selling will increase/ decrease the value?

Featured Replies

Is a VRS with more chipped or unchipped when selling?

I currently have a sportsmans bet with a friend that what makes the difference is the warrenty. I said that if it still has a warrenty (even if its a month) then it is best to unchip before selling. He reckons otherwise.

I remember when i was buying that it did not matter to me.

What is the general verdict/ results on this?

Wont make a difference to price, especially if trading it in.

Does it cost the same to de-map as it costs to map ? If you are selling privately it could make a difference to prospective purchaser re insurance etc.

I was speaking of selling privatly. Good point though Graham and Lummox. Anyone got any first had experience?

I've sold many 'tuned' motors.

None of the modded ones have been worth more money, but if advertised to the right kinda person it may make them more appealing.

IIRC Jabba charge £40 to reload your original map.

It wont effect the value but may reduce the number of potential buyers (and potentially reduce the ammount you sell for). A bit like painting the walls in yuor house bright pink.

Could someone more computer literate add a poll to this discussion?

Also how is this done?

Thanks :)

How is what done?

A remap must be reversed by the tuner that re-mapped it. Assuming they saved the oiginal file this is easy for them to do with a laptop.

A poll is added when you starte a thread - Moderators can add one after a thread has started but they dont usually like doing it (seems not, anyway)

IMO, selling the car modified, will cut the amount of perspective buyers and not necessarily increase the value...

Chris

I previously sold a modded/mapped pug 306 hdi estate on fleabay. Granted, an odd choice of car to mod, and the car didnt appeal to the usual type that would buy a diesel estate car from what I could see.

I suppose that if you are selling something that somebody wants, it doesn't matter how many people it doesnt appeal to, as only one person can buy it anyway.

If I were buying a car, I dont think any properly done modifications would put me off.

My remapped and fettled fabia is on ebay as we speak, so I will be interested to see what it ends up going for, as opposed to any standard ones kicking around.
