Locked but door not fully shut

Featured Replies

At home left the car on drive, and locked, mirros went in and lights flashed but 2 hours later I noticed (on the app) that SWMBO had not shut her door fully. So it was not locked really.

Given mirrors in and lights flashed I would have thought all was well but seems not to be the case. Happened to anyone else? How to avoid again?

It’s happened to me before on a previous car, a SEAT Leon. The mirrors folded and indicators flashed but I was close enough and didn’t hear the locks engage. I tried the fob a few more times then went back to the car to investigate. I hadn’t shut the rear passenger door properly

2-3 days after I went for a service at an independent specialist and they showed me the printout of any logged fault codes and it had actually logged the indicators/light system overheating from when I’d tried to lock the car a few times in quick succession.

I'm not actually convinced that that door is 100% aligned or something else (lock?) is slightly out as its not shut 'properly' a few times and needs a bit of force to shut nicely. All the other doors have not had an issue.

I guess I could get the dealer to look at it, but can they really improve it...not convinced of that either :)

The seals on my car cabin are pretty tight. If all the windows are rolled up and all other doors shut, I have to close my door quite a bit more firmly than if a window is down or door open. Compression.

Yes good point. Will experiment!

I tried to lock my car in the garage this afternoon and it wouldn't. The mirrors didn't fold and the lights didn't flash.

When I looked a bit closer my driver's door was not fully shut.

Phew...yes experimented and it does seem to be air pressure. The last door to shut has to be pushed somewhat harder! Will remember to check from now on.

Isn’t this why the windows on BMW and Mini’s drop a little when you open the door, ready to close?

My Brera used to do that too. I thought it was a glitch!
