Which Columbus do I have and Upgrades

Featured Replies

Hi all, bit of a noob here, just got me an 09 Superb Elegance with a Columbus system which I suspect has not been updated for a while. From the hidden setup menu I've got the following;

Delivery part number ends in B - is this what unit type it is? I've read that certain firmware updates only work on B and C units.

HW version H03

SW version 3984

Map version 7672

Some help interpreting the above would be much appreciated to help me work out which version of the Columbus I have and what firmware updates I can apply

Thanks in advance!

Part numbers are a bit misleading, as they jumped about a bit. Sometimes a unit with the same part number as another can be a few years different and there's been some other part numbers in between, then reverted back to the older one. The date stamp and software version on the label on the top is a much better way of being certain what you have.

However, software update would be 5238 if you can find it, and maps version V15 which is 8515

Cheers for the advice. So I popped the stereo out of the dash, I've got a unit made on 07.12.2008 with software version 0904.

I've attached a photo. Can you advise how I interpret the numbers so I know which unit I have?

Does this unit update via SD card or via DVD?

Can I update the firmware and maps using this on eBay?

And can I stream music on Bluetooth if I update the firmware?

Apologies for all the daft questions!

You have a very early unit (although not one of the very first which were made by Siemens). Looking at the data label there and the details on your first post, your unit has been updated at some point. The software has been updated from 0904 to 3984 at some point. Maps I couldn't say but I suspect they were done about the same time.

The Ebay link you provided is a link to the software and maps which should be okay, but you should be aware that despite the Ebay username of "official-navigation" and showing apparently genuine maps dvds (along with a selection of different vehicles with various stages of updates in progress which are no doubt sourced from Google pics), he's selling copied / stolen products he's simply downloaded from the net somewhere.

Columbus doesn't have Bluetooth built in, so I suspect a software update won't allow Bluetooth streaming. If you have a separate Bluetooth kit (usually fitted under the drivers seat) then you'll need to upgrade that to a newer unit (and change the wiring loom to allow stereo rather than mono which you'll currently have) before you can get Bluetooth streaming.

Updates on the Columbus are via cd and / or dvd for software and maps respectively.

Rustynuts, you are a gent, your advice is much appreciated.

Theres a 2012 maps DVD in the handbook pack so Im guessing the firmware was updated to 3984 at the same time this map was installed.

Am going to take a punt on the update and maps from eBay, am aware that they are downloaded copies that I could do myself but I cant be bothered with burning DVDs and the hassle of being sure Ive got the right download. He has 100% feedback on eBay so Im assuming he is doing something right!

Ill check out which Bluetooth module I have but to be honest I think I can cope with plugging in an aux cable!

Cheers again

Adam

You'll have about 15Gb or so of hard drive in the Columbus unit for loading mp3 music on to, and you'll also be able to use 32Gb sd card in the slot on the front, both of which will give full control on the Columbus and steering wheel controls (if fitted). A much better option than an aux connection.
