Traffic sign speeds - how to submit updates

Featured Replies

Been driving around the New Forest in Hampshire a lot over the bh weekend, and I think 90% of the road speed from the sav nav traffic sign recognition was wrong. About 60% of the time the camera eventually picked up a sign and fixed it (not bad I guess).

Would be nice to get it fixed. Assuming it is TomTom data? or something else we can update?

The tomtom app for this, if I remeber rightly is crap, boarding on unusable, so any other way to do it?

Anyone know or tried to submit updates.

I have been feeding data into Garmin and Teleatlas for years about errors and to date not a single one has been fixed.  Both have an error reporting system but neither seem in any hurry to do anything about TSR errors.  One of them responded that they drive UK roads every two years however based on the evidence I have seen, I can’t believe that!

I used to use a RoadAngel and they never bothered either.  A road around here is still showing as a 40mph when it has never been other than a 30mph in more than 20 years.  I have no idea where they source their underlying data but it is rubbish.

It was only recently that some sections of the a1 were updated not to have roundabouts !

If only they had taken them all out, Black Cat and Biggleswade spring to mind as still shocking throwbacks that are designed to hold traffic up.

To me your TSR seems quite low at 60%, having updated maps would be nice of course but there will always be errors hence the need for the camera. With the Amundsen it is very easy to check the recognition success of the camera as all you need to do is remove the sd card for the maps. Maybe others could comment on the 60% to verify if there experiences are the same but my experience I cannot fault it, even with recent speed limit changes in my area.

I think it is the combination of bad map speed data in that area and the camera not picking up sign because 1) They are limited in that area as it is a national park so they don't repeat them at all, only paint it on the road. I have noticed tsr often needs the repeat to argue with what the sat nav says 2) Many of the signs are a bit hidden in tree/undergrowth etc so get missed.

Basic problem is the speed data in that area is just crap and the sat nav is mostly assuming 'normal' speed limit for road types.

Mine is wrong as much as it is right.

It randomly shows different speeds on the same bit of road.

I can be in a 40 one day and it will show 20 but the next day it will be 40.

20's pop up randomly in 30 limits, I have walked some local routes looking for 20 signs, I haven't found any yet.

My system is fully up to date.

Black Cat is shortly to be reworked to put a flyover in and Biggleswade South is a dreadful configuration at present.  Arguments remain ongoing (as for the last few decades) with landowners to agree the route for the A1(M) from Baldock (Jcn 10] to the A14 at Alconbury.  Then all the roundabouts will have gone including Buckden
