Heated Side mirror problem.

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

I'm currently investigating a problem on my octavia.

Which is the side heated mirrors.

I bought a new mirror for my car because i broke the previous 1 oops :tongueout:

But the new 1 doesn't heat up at all.

The passenger side did and today few monthes after install the passenger side also quit heating up.

So i googled a bit and found a topic of someone explaining to check the mirrors with multi meter if they have enough ohm.

And mine does have enough.

But now comes my question is it normal that my heated mirror receives continuous power even when it's not pointed to heat hem up?

And also does it matter where the connectors are fitted on the mirror?

Like ground and power?

I don't think is supposed to be can someone please help to solve my problem i'm so confused...

I have vcds so if i need to chech something let me know!

Kinda frustrated to have this problem...

It doesn't matter which way round the connectors go.

Are the connectors making good contact?

Chrisund123,

I assume they make good contact but I kinda want to replace the plastic things where they make contact with the mirror.

But is it normal that even when the switch is not turned to heat the side mirrors I do still receive power?

In my eyes that doesn't look right.

I can't say with any conviction, but having voltage at the connectors when the switch isn't set to heat does sound a bit odd.

Is it the full 12v you're getting? Does it change when you set the switch to heat? Can you try putting an ammeter in and checking the current draw?

It does seem odd for me to and doesn't like look right at all either. And yes it is the full 12v I receive there.

And I didn't test that yet!

Will do that when I have some time.

Good idea I didn't think of it.

I'll keep u posted!

Might be worth checking the switch too. Can probably get one cheaply from ebay and swap it out. It definitely sounds odd that you are getting voltage with the switch off.

That's a good idea!

Any idea if i need to take of the whole panel or can i just take of the switch?

I'm afraid the whole panel.

I'll check it this weekend :)

My last weekend was a bit busy hehe :D

You can remove the switch by just prising off the speaker that surrounds as I recall. Use a plastic spatula or trim tool to avoid scratching anything.
