felicia cutting out, please help.

Featured Replies

i have a 99 felicia 1.3 mpi. the problem is that it keeps cutting out, spluttering and almost dying(sometimes back-firing), but usually picks up again, although it often takes turning it off and on again. this mainly happens braking downhill, stopped at lights, hard bends etc. and more recently even when cruising along. the idle revs are not smooth, ie a bit high and jerky but usually runs fine apart these outbursts which are becoming more common. from other forums i have noticed these identical symptoms seem to be quite common but there's no one definitive solution it seems. i've taken it to several garages including full computer diagnostic check at local skoda garage and nothing.

my theory now is its either the throttle body or the air mass meter. does this sound plausible? don't know much about either.

any help would be much appreciated.

cheers

sorry but that link don't seem to be workin. so i'm afraid i still need help. from the info i've gathered i now reckon the most likely culprit is the throttle body an i've sourced a second hand one for about

Cutting out could be,

Coolant temp sensor

Thottle body

Crank sensor

Any fault codes that you know of?

when i had it in the skoda garage, the computer diagnostic said it was the coolant temp sensor so i had that replaced but no joy. don't no of any fault codes. is there anything i can do to check if it might be say the throttle body myself?

hi,

my octavia is doing pretty much the same stuff. it's mainly breaking downhill, and slowing down generally-it's getting scary, as of course the brakes and steering die as the engine cuts out. it's recently started doing a little jerk forward sometimes instead of dying. i'd love to know the answer-i was thinking of getting one of those diagnostic guys out to it?

check the exhaust system for leaks right back to the manifold, pay carefull attention around the manifold end for any sign of air leak either inlet or exhaust.

The MPI inlet exhaust gaskets can cause running problems like this. What happens is it messes up the fuelling by sending incorrect signals to the lambda sensor. If youve got any signs of a leak replace it with the early type combine inlet exhaust manifold gasket.

Ive also known leaking joints from the down pipe to the manifold to cause these symptoms as well.

Try cleaning the trottle body and then if you have VAG reset the ecu basic settings

The story at the monent is: I've changed the fuel filter which was full of s*** and that sorted out a few symptoms, I also cleaned the throttle body, tried replacing it with another used one...no joy, replaced the HALL sensor. Still no good. She'll start fine every time, and when cold she'll idle fine (around 1000) for a minute or so then drop to around 750 and idle quite eratically around there, every few minutes the revs will drop a lot, nearly die, rev up, sometimes backfire...and so on. I'm currently trying to sell it and the eratic idling pretty much puts everyone off. Any more suggestions would be much appreciated, especially anything I can do myself at home for virtually no money, don't mind getting my hands dirty.

Cheers.
