Octavia Laurin&Klement 1.8T 4x4 - Electric problems

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I'm completely new in this forum, so please forgive me if I asking something which is here already - however I not found yet.

So, I have a 2001 Octavia Laurin&Klement 1.8T 4x4 Estate car. I love it very much, it is comfortable, big, beautiful, running pretty good. no rust, so this is my new wife... :)

Unfortunately it has some electric problems: air condition pump, haldex pump does not get control signal at all (I found here a good guide, how to test haldex), radio did not get 12V, if I using read window heating, after 5 minutes the battery is dead (probably short circuit), even if the car is running and the battery is new. Looks like - except read window heating - the problems are linked somehow. I checked all fuses, including main fuse box at top of battery.

I would like to check relays, but first of all, I have no idea, where can I find a list, which relay doing what. I do not found it in the workshop manual - it says check "Current flow diagram", but I cannot find it anywhere.

In the last couple of days I tried to googling on this topic, without any success, no article, no video about this.

Does anyone of you have any idea, which relay has which function, or this AC problem and haldex problem linked, or maybe there is a rely, which does not works correctly?

I have vagcom cable, KKL, Galetto, anything what needed to diag... I did already a complete diagnostic, without any results related to this problem.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

@Antaljani - Could you please fill in the "location" field in your profile? This actually helps us give nation specific advice! I'm not actually aware of the L&K 1.8T 4x4 being a UK model.

After that, does the battery light illuminate when you switch the ignition on and before you start the car? If not, then you have  broken alternator control wire (normal gauge wires on back of alternator), and this could cause most or all of your other problems.

Sorry for that, I made my profile done with location info.

Btw, I'm living in Hungary, Budapest. This vehicle was bought in Hungary, but this is a typical German model.

I think, the electrical system is similar like generic 1.8T 4x4.

I hope this will help to find the answer.
