PROJECT, adding circuits to the fusebox.

Featured Replies

Under the dash you find the interior fusebox, fuses are two different physical sizes. Of the larger size fuses there are two rows. The "blue" row, and the "purple" row. The 12V plug is on the purple row, and is on even when the ignition is off. On the blue row there are two unused spots for fuses, its these i want to use. I did check, these two do not stay on when ignition is off, just what i want.

Went to the local VAG dealership and got the little 'cableshoes' (direct translation from Norwegian, you may have a different name for them in English, see picture for what i mean. They were kind and gave me them for free. Møller Bil Egersund.

Ive marked the cable going to the 12v plug, checked it with a multimeter, and want to solder this cable onto it. And add a placeholder fuse (a used broken one, or a plastic one) to the the circuit not used. This way future owner can get it back to stock if wanted by just changing the spots of two fuses. And add the other end to one of the two available spots on the 'blue' row.

Then i want to use the last available spot and use it to give fused power to a new circuit for my dashcam (i want it to turn off with ignition) and the DAB+ adapter in my car. Thinking easiest place to get ground from is somewhere under the center console, but if you have better ideas let me know.

Problem is, getting these 'cableshoes' into the fusebox is more work than i thought, to do so it seems this blue piece of plastic holding the entire row in place needs to be removed for me to be able to get it in there.

So any leads on how to do so? Help and leads greatly appreciated.

Added the 'fuse holders' or cablesocks xD to the fusebox. Atm they both just lead to a loose wirestrip. The longer one will go to the 12v adapter in the previous post, and the shorter one (with taped ends) ive decided to put on hold for now, was supposed to be fused in with the cable going to the 12v plug in the center console. But realized i hadnt checked if theres other things on the same circuit. And that i dont have the exuipment to do this in such a tricky spot right now. So later. After this picture was taken i mounted the fusebox back where it belongs.

Now all that remains for me to be happy with my work is find a spot for the power adapter, find a good spot to set the ground from, pull the USB cables where they need to go and make it all look neat and tidy.

Will mount the ground in the dashboard sidepanel. Found that spot thanks to this thread.

12v adapter will be mounted near here. I love this forum, figuring out what to do would have taken way longer without it 🥰

I moved the 12V socket output from fuse 47 to fuse 27. I used pinout tools which worked fine. This is the Fabia fuse board now.Fuses.pdf
