Wasted 2 days trying to get a kodiac

Featured Replies

Just to continue the theme of no build dates etc I have spent the last 2 days looking for a new Kodiaq, I have had a nissan employee deal for about 18 years and was thinking of a change and happened upon the skoda kodiac.

Took some time to persuade the wife and off we went for a look. She was reasonably pleased and had a look at a few other things on the way home.

We decided we would maybe test the waters at the se model and maybe with 7 seats.

Set up a checker with car wow and shortly after got some reasonable prices through...... That's when the trouble started.

Everyone that quoted us cannot get a car. What on earth is the point on quoting us. Only one dealer when probed mentioned the engine changeover.

I even tried the £5000 off from a thread a few down from this one, they said they didn't have any either. Looking through the forum it seems that this is quite common.

My new Nissan needs ordering so my moment with skoda may have been a fleeting one

There should be plenty of cars already built and in-stock, either here in the UK, or at the various ports between the factory and the German port Emden.

This will of course mean that factory options, specifications and colour choices will be limited, but these cars should be unregistered and waiting for owners.

The only issue you should have is with the 1.4 TSI engine. Production slots were filled very quickly and as a result I suspect that Skoda UK under forecasted the numbers they'd need to bridge the gap between the 1.4 order books closing and the 1.5 engine first-builds.

Are the dealers you're in contact with saying there are no pre-built cars available at all, or are you looking to personalise the car i.e. a factory build?

The dealer should very quickly be able to print you off or email you a list of cars in stock waiting for owners.

I have been quoted that there is no 1.4 s or se in the 125 psi and one red one in se trim in the 150 but this means it's with 4x4 or dsg or both which we don't really want

Thanks

Give Skoda a chance...........................they really are AMAZING vehicles.

Cannot give them a chance if I cannot get one lol

The 125PS 1.4 TSI is a rare engine, it wasn't a particularly popular choice which might explain why Skoda haven't stockpiled many.

The 1.4 TSI 150PS is a peach of an engine, and given the popularity of petrol engines lately its likely that Skoda UK have underestimated the numbers needed to bridge the gap until the replacement 1.5 TSI arrives.

It's not much help but its likely that there'll be lots more choice with the diesel engine options.

As has been mentioned, I'm not a Skoda fanboy but it'll be worth waiting for the order books to open again, especially if your current alternative is the Qashqai or X-Trail. Nothing against Nissan but Skoda's (VAG) petrol engines are a few leagues ahead.

Skoda have been hopeless for years with their supply and demand, and they don't seem to care that they genuinely lose customers because of it. You would think that a slight oversupply would be the way forward like most manufacturers seem to operate, but skoda have a consistent undersupply and it's not even short term, it seems to have always been there.

Perils of being a popular marque that runs a build-to-order system because you have cars with option lists.

However, we can hardly complain when this appears to be an unusual situation and the norm is 8-12 weeks for a new factory order car to be delivered. You only have to look at the threads and messages from people in other countries that have to wait 6-9 months or even longer to realise we're not all that badly done by.

Nissan et al can have loads and loads of stock because they don't have options lists, so they just bang them out in all the different trim/engine/colour combinations (numbers of each fitting to some popularity curve, no doubt) and there is almost guaranteed to be one you want sitting somewhere waiting...

Have you looked on carwow? The skoda dealer in Leicester seems to have a 1.4 SE manual.

I wouldn't normally mind waiting , I waited over 30 weeks for my mazda mx5 to be built then shipped from the factory but my Nissan gets replaced every 11 months and my 12 week order slot just opened up like I said above . They are built to order too but generally on this deal no one adds options as you only have the car 11 month maximum so no point really adding anything. maybe if it wasn't in the middle of this engine change from 1.4 to 1.5 the time scale could have been possible. Might have to check around Christmas time again to see what the situation is then for next years car change. on the upside getting an xtrail will save me a lot of cash for next year

yeah that's who I was getting my quotes through. I had 5 offers like you are supposed to. for the s model I got quotes for £17500 up over and the se were £19200 up over . the best quotes were from Horton. when I contacted them there reply was... cannot get them and carwow need to update its system. my local dealer quoted me too at approx. £900 more for each model. there reply was also sorry no space on build queue and non showng in central stock

Carwow quotes are automatically generated based on quarterly numbers I believe,I doubt the dealer is sitting there replying personally to each request as no doubt they get a huge number of requests from people that are just playing around. I might be wrong though.

Go back in to carwow, look at your showroom then press the blue button under your build "Browse cars in stock".

is it reference FG18XXY

it shows up as sandicliffe Nottingham and says it is pre registered

thanks

Same group so thats probably it.

thanks for looking

probably gonna just leave it by the looks of things

all that seems to be about is pre registered at probably more than what standard new build would be with the current £3000 discount.

Probably have to get myself an xtrail this time ( it sounds like im moaning about it but its an amazing deal that I shouldn't pass up !!)

maybe next time

VW Group are not the only Manufacturers that have to close order books and in some cases discontinue model trims and drive train options.

Many of them are not risking having vehicles built they can not sell after September because they have not had the WLTP carried out by then.

There are lower volume manufacturers that will be able to sell later than September small percentages of vehicles without the new figures available.

You would expect them to be sorted out by 2018 with GPF's in petrols, and diesels with SCR and emissions and fuel consumptions and VED bands that suit their market / customers.

Before assuming you can get a Nissan or anything else not built yet or that will not be First Registered before September you best check with the manufacturers and not just salespeople at dealerships.

this car doesn't come from a dealers it comes straight off the production line to me

its a NEVOS Nissan employee vehicle ownership scheme

what normally happens is you get 11 month with the car then a dealer claims it at 8 - 11 month and you take it in when then need it and your new car is ready to pick up and the cycle continues

if no one specific has claimed it at month 8 your new order goes in and your car is swapped regardless

as mine is a couple of weeks early someone must want my car hence my slightly early order date

I got a list a couple of days ago of what models are currently going through the factory and the possibilities I can select

it is a smaller list than normal this might be because of the things you have written about

@Markharrop, check out this thread, it shows current stocks. Seems there are quite a few SE Kodiaq's with a manual gearbox, 1.4 TSI engine and seven seats...

thanks , was told yesterday by skoda customer support that there were a few available but non of the 3 dealers I was dealing with said they could get me one

they asked who I had been in contact with the most and I said I had been in touch with hortons the most.

they took my details and said they would get the guy who was dealing with me to get back in touch and they would follow it up today

No one has been back in touch today. Im not sure if the problem is that the dealers know there isn't many available so they don't want to sell them at the discount that carwow originally quoted.

they did say that it was possible to order a my19 but said it could be October which is a no no at present.

hopefully my xtrail order got put in today . depends how quickly that gets put though I could need to replace it in 11 months .

the xtrail I have ordered has both 4x4 and 7 seats , this way at least it is a much cheaper way to find out if I use 7 seats much and also if we tend to use the 4x4 or not

thanks once again

That's the one I bought, pre registered with 6 miles on the clock and best part of £4K under list price.  I am very happy with it.

I looked at x trails but their engines seems to be very low powered like 130BHP (not good) from what I can see on their website. Do they do any more powerfull engines?
