Accessing Airbag control unit

Featured Replies

Following on from my last post..,

I’ve got the centre console out now...

whars the next steps to getting at the airbag control unit. Haynes manual is really not helpful

The unit is bolted to top of the transmission tunnel, it's tucked right under there near the bulkhead, I had to use a ratcheting ring spanner to undo the four 10mm nuts (or bolts, can't remember which, then I disconnected the multiway connector once it was free.

I remember access was REALLY tight, you need to remove the gear gaiter housing and the rest of the centre console where it fixes to the dash as well if you haven't already.

Ok, I see we have a multi-thread system in operation and this is now probably irrelevant...

Possibly not irrelevant... thought it was best to start a new thread as was different to the central console one.

anyway I had to put it all back together as I needed my car. And it had really annoyed me, and I didn’t want to spend another hour farting around with something that I didn’t really know what I was looking for

I remember thinking it should have been such a simple job but access made it nearly impossible. I swapped out the unit, cleared all the fault codes, drove it for about a week and the bloody light came back on again!

That’s what I thought. Need the code of the ecu to get a new one. Think I might just pay the garage to do it
