The Golden Nugget

Featured Replies

I've just bought an 05 Octavia 2.0 TDi estate in beige, which will forever be known as the Golden Nugget.

It has done 145k miles and was sold to me as an L & K but the insurance brings it up as an Ambiente. Not sure myself but it has the sill covers and all the trimmings.

Things I need to do:

1. Clean it up! The leather and carpets are filthy and the trim needs cleaning. Outside needs a good polish.

2. Water leak from driver's door. I was just commenting to the wife how reliable these are, then the drips came in at the top of the driver's door. It does look as though the door has moved slightly.

3. Air con. Not blowing cold.

4. DSG service. It requires one!

5. Fluid service. I'll do this myself.

....and lots and lots more. I will be driving this daily and doing 100 mile commutes twice a week. I want to bring it back to the lovely place to be that it was once - not that it isn't pretty good already. The previous owner - a friend who is emigrating - had it MOTed yesterday and had to get 3 X calipers and discs/pads all round so it stops like a good un!

I'll keep putting pics up here to show what I've been up to.

(Mods - please move to the right area if I'm off target; thanks)

So I was going through the raft of invoices with the car (one guy spent thousands keeping this car in trim!) and on the last service the garage couldn't get the lid off the Airbox due to rusty screws. Well, I had to drill one and use four sided bits to get it out. The rest took some coaxing but they were mostly good.

New filter and brake bulb tomorrow.

I mentioned air con in my first post. Well, today's 4 hour journey was hotter than hell so I'll be getting someone to see if I have any refrigerant left - let's hope it's that!
