Hi Folks, I am not sure if I am on the correct page to introduce myself and to ask a few pertinent questions regarding Skoda Octavia ownership.

I am interested in an Octavia 1.4 TSI, Hatchback ( the estate not available with a  manual g'box?) 2014/15. I was confident as to what I wanted

until I found a well known' motoring advice site'. There I fond a long list of faults to be expected when owning Octavia's in general and the

1,4 TSI in particular.  Now I am torn as to what to expect. I love the look of the Octavias and I would be sorry to look at other makes .

I am was a Ford Registered Technician for 23 years before I retired so I am fully aware that no car can be fault free. One strange  item that I read was the 'fact'

it is impossible to open the bonnet if the battery is flat , due to the n/s/f door closing over the bonnet release. !

What I am looking for is some reassurance from your members so that  buy with confidence and all comments would be appreciated. No pressure !!

             Regards, George O.

A warm welcome to the Forum!  Surely the door, if locked, can be opened by the manual key?

Thanks for your welcome msg. Regarding the 'alleged' bonnet opening problem, I agree that it sounds very strange. I don't know anything  regarding the

workings of any Skoda model . I was fortunate to find the Owners Handbook on here and I find that there is a method of unlocking the drivers door by virtue of a 'secret'

flap in the o/s/f door handle to see a key slot .  I am wondering if the the n/s/f door has the same function ,and if so the author of this info' did not know about it !

.      Sorry to be so long winded as a Newbie !    George O .
