Replacement Bonnet

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise on a suitable place to purchase a Face lift bonnet for my Octy? (preferrably in red lol)

Following a recent RTC my bonnet now has a couple of shallow dents in it. I have called around several "dent removal" companies who have told me various things from "we don't do bonnets" to, "we don't do paintless dent removal" to others who don't even call you back after emailing or leaving messages.

Hopefully the dent can be seen in this photo:-

There is another smaller one further towards the front of the bonnet, but i cannot get this to show up in the photos.

Beginning to think a full bonnet may be an easier option. Found a red one on Ebay but asked for further pictures showing any damage but the seller wasn't keen to send any, so i can only assume its full of dents.

Wasn't intending on claiming on my own insurance as i thought that i could get the dents repaired for less than the excess and the hassle, plus, even though i have protected NCD the premium still goes up and you are only allowed so many claims in a certain period.

Feeling a bit gutted about this at the moment so any advice would be hugely appreciated.

I'd have thought that as long as the damaged rear of the bonnet is free from stiffening braces then it should be easy enough for a repair place to sort out - they just need to be convinced that rear access is easy.

There's a body shop en route to work which I have used for a couple do previous scrapes. But they required filling and painting. I really was hoping that this damage wouldn't need filler and paint. 30 years of driving with no issues then the last few years have been several. Two of them admittedly my own fault. But the most recent was certainly not.

Surprised a PDR firm wouldnt be able to get them out, especially if they've not cracked the paint.

Contact some detailing firms and ask them for their PDR recommendations. Normally in detailing you know body work specialists and such.

As it happens there's a detailing guy a few doors down from me who has his own business. He knows someone but he can't get to me til next week after speaking with him today. The detailing guy said that if "he can't get the dents out, no one can" so fingers crossed. Just need to wait til next week now.

I'd quite a serious dent removed on my bonnet just after I'd bought my car 3 years ago ... It's an 07 plate and was right on the front of the central part behind the badge ... I'd the same issue with many PDR places saying it couldn't be done but one chap came out and looked and said he could do it but couldn't guarantee it be 100% ... To me it is as I can't see anything but he wasn't happy and took £10 for petrol to come out .. It was the size of a large fist just behind the badge and slightly to the right so had an affect on the raised panel line ....image.thumb.jpeg.fabd2feb90672d3549308281b0ce22bb.jpeg

I think I would be ok with something like you have described. I can't see anything from the photo that shows as being repaired. I think some business just aren't interested in smaller jobs these days. Fingers crossed this guy comes up trumps. Got a new grill with red surround instead of chrome so it's turned into a bit of a mod too. Which will hopefully help to get past a pretty awful incident tbh.

Well. After being messed around by a painless dent removal guy. I had the car in the body shop for a repair to the bonnet. I have used the place before and they have done good job as usual. I also fitted my colour coded grille.

What did they do? PDR or full repair and respray?

If it was not your fault could you not claim for the repair from the other party?

It's a bit difficult to claim from a 9 yr old. I doubt he had public liability insurance.

Was it your 9yo or someone else's. If someone else's then most house insurance policies have public liability built into them which covers the kids that live in the house or just ask the parents to pay. If it is yours then you need to have a stern word with yourself to cough up!!!!

Someone else's 9 yr old. Was a truly horrible experience when someone runs out in front of you. Police and ambulance attended. Police were really good with me to be fair as I had no chance of missing him, he ran out of his house as I was almost level with the door he came out of. Fortunately for all concerned I was travelling well under the limit. The lads family immediately said it was the boys fault. However when it comes to repairing the vehicle it is basically down to me to sort out, so I have been told. The police explained it a bit like of I hit an animal that ran out in front of me. Anyway it's all sorted now and the main thing is that no one was seriously injured. From what I have read, using a civil action to recover costs in cases like this is a potential nightmare.

Shame parents did not offer straight off. My car got damaged by a neighbour's child and they just immediately said they would pay the repair costs.

Good to hear the kid is ok. Must have been a horrible experience.

It didn't and doesn't feel right to ask them to pay or contribute really. But it did cross my mind. I am sure there main concern was not my car and rightly so. Certainly one of the worst experiences of my life, and that includes a divorce and a relationship breakdown with a business partner and very good friend. Lol. Got to try and take the positives away. The cost of the repair to my car is nothing in the grand scheme of life. Even my son, a teenager who has very few nice things to say about his parents these days commented on how my good driving had probably saved the kids life or certainly saved him for severe injury. Lol.

Just shows why 20mph zones are so important and should be stuck too. I bet even a few miles per hour faster would have meant a significantly worse outcome. As you say life matters most.
