Factory fitted tow bar - gap to bumper.

Featured Replies

The style is the same, but the design is quite different.

It just surprised me that's all, given how VAG prefer parts sharing and complexity reduction, and as the Tarraco is essentially a Kodiaq with SEAT exterior panels and interior trim I'd have assumed the factory fitted electrically folding towbar would be off-the-shelf i.e. identical to that of the Kodiaq and Tiguan Allspace etc.

The supporting bar, the first part of the towbar you can see protruding from under the bumper on the Tarraco is a flat profile, almost as though the towbar needs to extend further out from the bumper. A criticism of the Kodiaq is that the distance between the ball and bumper is very small, making the fitting of AL-KO type towing hitches sometimes difficult to fit without fowling the bumper (hence me choosing this thread to revive)...

@Arkaig it was the plastic flap on the top of the towbar, just infront of the stem supporting the ball, hinged with a couple of screws, I was curious as to its purpose as it is absent on the Kodiaq.

@silver1011 do you have a measurement of the bumper to ball distance?

On the Tarraco no, the distance for the Kodiaq was mentioned back on page one of this thread, here is the image another member posted...

3 inches so 76mm?

The anti-snake towing hitches fitted to a lot of European caravans are quite bulky ahead of the tow ball to facilitate the friction pads.

I have found that when reversing our caravan onto the drive that the braking bellows compress and unless you drive forward a few inches to let them return, then when the hitch is lifted off the tow ball it can make contact with the bumper on the car. I now use a piece of expandable foam sandwiched between the two to help prevent the hitch from marking the plastic, just until I can move the car forward after unhitching.

I was wondering if SEAT had addressed this minor inconvenience with their later iteration of the tow bar.

Could it just be a new stlye of tow bar that is maybe now fitted to more recent Kodiaks? Like you say, its quite surprising what things are out of the VAG parts bin and then some random things seems to be unecessarily different in design

It could well be an improved design, but it hasn't yet made it over to the Kodiaq.

I was referring to the Tarraco's bumper to ball length since you've already posted the Kodiaq's. Maybe it'll come with the new model year commencing in BW30.
