Hi, I've just put a MIB2 unit in my 2014 Octavia, all working fine apart from showing a Superb Estate on the screen instead of an Octavia Estate. Does anyone know how to change this using VCDS? I've tried looking at long-coding on 5F but it says it's not available.

It appears as though you're using an older interface (and software) which isn't compatible with the controllers in your vehicle. A next generation (Hex-net or Hex V2) with VCDS 18.2.1 will allow you to access all the missing controllers. There are many faults there which I'd be unhappy leaving on the car so either update your existing VCDS (which may help a bit) or obtain a latest gen one.

 

Additionally, the MIB2 unit you have fitted is an Audi unit. Are you sure the vehicle data isn't showing an Audi Estate?

I'm using VCDS 18.2.1 with a GENDAN HEX+CAN cable, it is quite old though! Do you have a link to the best one to buy?

 

The MIB2 unit has Skoda code on it, I bought it from vagtec, they must just re-purpose the units as they need them, it has a skoda face on the front of it. The car display shows a Superb Estate, I've managed to change the splash screen to VRS but don't know the bits to set to show an Octavia.

There's a stuck post at the top of this section with details of what to buy and where from (here). Depending on your needs, either a 3 vin or a 10 vin Hex V2 would probably be the way forward. Best value is a 10 vin one and then an upgrade to unlimited vins as required, but if you want the cheapest option then a 3 vin would be the way. That however limits you to only using it on 3 cars, but if that's all you want then cool.

 

If you want wireless connectivity and other stuff then the Hex Net is worth considering for more money. Not something I personally value though as cables tend to be more reliable than wifi / bluetooth in my world.

Your current interface will probably sell for enough to fund a new generation one too.

 

As for the units identity. Sounds like they buy them and replace parts to suit the market (or a damaged Audi fascia will become an undamaged Skoda unit perhaps with the swap of a faceplate).

Does the new interface show the long coding helper for 5F then or do you think that's down to me having an Audi unit in a Skoda car, currently when I try to access long coding helper on 5F I get a message saying it's not available.

Yep, you'll be able to access long coding with a new interface.

You'll also be able to clear the Check Software Management Version error manually as VCDS can't do this. Simple to do as detailed here by aki78...

VCDS use 'xx xx' format, but you have to use 'XXXX' format for calculation.

If your original code starts with zero just remove it before calculating.

If your new code is less than 4 characters insert zero(s) in the beginning.

 

Calculation example (just C9D2 is fix here!):

Original code: 1a 1a

Conversion: 1a 1a -> 1A1A

Calculation: 1A1A Xor C9D2 = D3C8

Conversion: D3C8 -> d3 c8

 

The above calculation method is from the Skoda update document and it works.

Why have you installed Audi TT unit 8S0035021E unit instead of native Skoda version? I believe this could be the root cause of your problem

Hello! I have made a retrofit bolero mib1 to Columbus Mib2 with sim card. I cant see 2 functions in menu: wlan and i cant copy music from external. The guy that installed the unit gives me some function that i need to activate, but it is with odis and i have only VCDS. Can someone help me with activitate these functions?And i have some erros with all speakers, open... Thank you so much
