Roofbar: width between feet

Featured Replies

While I wait for delivery of my car, I am looking at roofbars, specifically to mount my roofbox. It's one of the larger ones (karrite 470l), and with my current astra estate I cannot mount it fully between the feet of my current roofbars (cruz) - the distance I need is 78cm, the distance on the roofbars are 74cm (the car rear narrows a fair bit). The roofbox has 'U' brackets that come up inside the box where wingnuts are used to fix it. It's not possible to simply make new holes (well it could be but then the adjustment is lost)

So what I'm after for the Octavia are roofbars that do not have a long support that goes too far under the bars to allow the maximum unencumbered width on the underside of the bar (i.e. more than 78cm)

The official Skoda ones look pretty good (youtube video, but not an octavia), though I expect there's something similar for less ££ around? I'm not fussy on aerobars as they will only be on when the roof bars are on.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Cheers

Guessing you have gone for the Estate version with roof rails, Thule Wingbar (Silver bar below) 961 with footpack 757 comes in at 80cm gap between the feet at the most rearward point of the roof rails. This combo fits over the roof rails.

Thule Wingbar Edge (Black Bar Below) which fits near flush between the roof rails comes in at 68cm between the feet also at most rearward point.

In reality, there is a little more clearance than this as the bars are fitted about 10 cm forward the most rearward point.

Wow, thanks so much for this BigEjit  . Obvs, the Wingbar is clearly the better choice, and clearance is just about enough for what I'd like.

I'll be mounting the box as far forward as possible as I'll be loading the bike rack on the towbar, some logic to balancing the car a bit applies. So any additional clearance gives more confidence.

:coffee:< replace this with a virtual tipple of your choice :)

Cheers! Forgot to say that any of the Thule 118cm wide bars 761, 861, 961 or equivalent 118cm Exodus bars will fit on the Thule foot pack 757.

Thanks that's good to know. I've had a quick look and see a number of options for the bars, I'll probably stick with the square bars as they're unlikely to ever stay on the car. Interesting that some other makes are similar in their setups which gives me confidence that there are a few options out there that will work for me. Thanks again.
