Tyres still Undecided

Featured Replies

Need to replace the fronts on my Octy 130 pd , was thinking verdestran , but seen some Threads on here about TOYO PROX , what ones are best the CF1 OR T1R , What re they like on wet roads and noise plus wear , any info thanks .

I bought some T1 Toyo tyres the other week. I'm very impressed.

I've been doing lots of research into this recently - I'll be fitting Toyo Proxes T1R's at the end of this month.

Don't overlook the Kumho KU15's, blinding tyre IMHO & nota-lota squids!

Unless you're racing your car, doing careful research seems a complete waste of time to me. The budget tyres are well up to the task nowdays and the big manufacturers are charging way too much for tyres that we don't really need.

If you drive quite sensibly, paying up to

Regardless of how you drive, what price your life/health when you only have a contact area of about 6 inches in all 4 corners?

Eh ? I drive sensibly and a good budget tyre will protect my precious life just as well as a Michelin or Goodyear tyre. Paying £600 for tyres has never been proven to save lives. Common sense does. A bit like paying £240 for a set of Toyos instead of wasting the other £300 odd quid.

You could say that the contact patch on your hands to the steering wheel was vitally important too ? So, we should all shell out £400 on a top of the line MOMO steering wheel and £100 on racing gloves ? No need.

The Barum tyres on the ebay site are far too expensive , i have got a quote from National tyres for the same ones and it is

We run Pirrelli P6000 on the Octavia Tdi which is a high miler (35000 a year) they have an adequate wear rate & give pretty good grip

The 4x4 (350 bhp) runs Toyos, good grip for the price but high wear rate, about 10000 a set max

Have a look for Nokian X, they are cheap, and are grippier and quieter than the Toyo's T1S's that they replaced.

They have a good write up on the net.

I have not had the following tyres fitted to my Skoda yet but let me throw another name into the mix. I always fitted Hankook Ventus sports tyres to my Alfa 145. These were great tyres that provided masses of grip (wet & dry) were progressive on the limit, provided great feedback through the steering wheel. They also had a pretty cool tread pattern to boot.

In fact once my local tyre provider couldn't source any so I got a set of Yoko A509's that everybody raved about. I went back in less than 500 miles to have them replaced as they were no where near as good as the Hankooks. On top of this as well they were cheap for the Alfa @ £47 (inc tax & fitting) per corner this compared to the Toyo's that I originally wanted which were going to be £75 per corner. I didn't think that the price was bad as the Alfa tyres were a funny size (195x55x15).

I got talking to a guy at the Garage one day who had a Mitsi Evo FQ340 on 18"'s who was getting the same tyres, again he swore by them saying that they transformed his car and were much better than the recommended rubber for the motor.

Mine have just been fitted this minute. Things were getting very light up-front in all this wet weather, despite the (stock) Michelin Primacies having about 1mm to go before the wear indicators.

I now have 4 toyo T1Rs,and what a difference compared to the contis i had when i bought the car last year.Excellent grip in the wet/dry once they were run in:rofl:

I run Toyo T1Rs on the front of my coupe. They are grippy in the dry, and ok in the wet.

I ran T1Ss before that... they were slightly worse in the wet, but the main problem was bad wear. I'm yet to see what the Rs wear like.

Next tyre I will be buying however is Goodyear Eagle F1 GDS3s. I've only heard good things about them, by the sounds of it they're better than the Toyos in the wet and amazing in the dry.

I presently run Pirelli P6000s on the back, they're fine back there but when I had them up front for a while I found them terrible. Severe understeer and not very good under braking (sliding in the wet). I wouldn't run these up front again. However, on the back they haven't worn at all in 18 months.

All depends how you drive though. I tend to hammer mine round corners so want good fronts. If you dont though, a more hard wearing tyre will be better as all the top ones dont last long in comparison. Plus I can afford to have soft tyres as they're only £40 a corner on my wheels (195/50/15).

Go for the T1-R....

Excellent tyre for both performance and value for money...

I will use nothing but now....

cheers

I've not looked into the price of the toyo's (T1R) for the octy but have them on my mk2 golf and they work brilliantly. I had a set of F1's on the octy and i really didn't get on with them - i've since moved onto the Bridgestone RE 050 A and i am well inpressed.

At 84 quid a tire they're not that cheap but they've done nearly 20k with loads of tread left and the level of mechanical grip in any weather is awesome.

I've always tended towards a good quality tire on any car i own and for my 2 penny worth i'd say that the budget tires are certainly round and black with varying level of grip. Don't expect the cheapest roadstar or nankang to grip like the kuhmo or f1 because they won't. The first time you arrive at that roundabout in the wet you might just get a scarey suprise.

From what I've read on various forums, the GSD F1's and T1R's are both pretty well comparable in terms of grip but the F1's are a little more noisy and more expensive.

For that reason I'm going for the Toyo's
