Car detailing recommendations please

Featured Replies

Hi , hoping to take delivery of my new Karoq in the next week or so and have declined my dealer kind offer of Lifeshine and Gap insurance. Pretty sure I can get less costly offerings elsewhere. So can anyone recommend a good car detailer in the Fife or Edinburgh who could carry out good protection for outside of the car a la LIFESHINE

Thanks Allan.

Perhaps think of applying it yourself, you will save money and you will be sure that the protection has been applied properly

I turned down lifeshine. I was detailer in the industry many moons ago so I know full well that the dealer offered “protection” packs are worth as much as bag they come in. You will be much better off as  greenineboss has said, if you do it yourself. A good wash, and coat of sealant followed by a quality wax will see the car protected for a good few months. I took the wheels off and waxed them inside and out too. If you really want to get it done professionally then look at a ceramic coating but that will need to be applied by an authorised user.

Whilst not a "new" car, I recently purchased & applied Fusso Coat "Dark" to my grey Octavia (they do a "light" version depending on which colour car you have).

It was an absolute doddle to use and the manufacturer claims it'll be good for 12 months (although realistically I reckon 6-7 months).  At just over £20 for a big tin it will last you literally years, had a pot of Colinite wax which is about the same size for 11 years now so it's excellent value for money.

Check out www.cleanyourcar.co.uk as they sell Fusso products.  Get a couple of applicators, some microfibre cloths and some quick detailer spray which is useful to keep in your boot with a MF cloth so you can clean off any bird crap ASAP.

You may be looking at a spend of around £50 to get all the bits but it's still way cheaper than the dealership alternative, the protection will be better and you will be able to maintain that new car look :)

Donit your self mate ;)

I have started to get back into detailing and I am currently using Poorboys products

barfar the best stuff I have ever used.

A detailing shop in the Netherlands did a test a few years ago, with Waxoil and a concurrent sealant (synthetic wax). The Waxoil dealers claims a protection for 3 years if you also do a yearly update at the protection layer. Most sellers of this Waxoil product deliver a very poor handling to put the layer on your paint. In this case, the Dutch shop did a very intensive preparation and serious work to put the layer on one half of a proof panel. So the test layer of Waxoil was a lot better than average, to be sure that won't be a argument. On the other half of the proof panel, they put a layer of Poorboys World EXP.

The proof panel was placed on the roof of the company, and now and than they did some additional tests. Only after 5-6 weeks, the expensive Waxoyl (costs about 300 € for the first time,  and between 50 and 100 € for each repeated handling after 1 and 2 years) was gone, where the cheap EXP (about 15€ for a bottle you can do your car 20-30 times) was still protecting the panel paint.

For the people who understand Dutch, you can find the test (including some YouTube films) here.

A properly prepared car, can stay very shiny for years, when a good quartz coating is applied.
